Drive Flange Studs

Bought a drive flange kit from cruiser outfitters. And it came with new studs.
Old look ok but since I have brand new ones I might as well replace them.
My question is: How do I take out the old studs and replace.
I don't have press.

Thread two nuts on the exposed end of the stud and tighten the nuts to each other, then put a wrench on the bottom nut and turn lefty-loosey...

To take out the old do I just unscrew using a vice grip?
 
You don't need to jam them in there with massive force. The nuts are only torqued to something like 24ftlbs. So if you double nut and use the outer nut to apply your wrench, or torque wrench, you only need something in the 30-40ftlb range. Once seated the stud, I used two wrenches to break the two nuts apart so I didn't back the stud out which I thought might happen if only tried loosening the outer one. Since I bought new nuts I used the old nuts to do all the work, then used the new ones when I installed the flange itself. Maybe it was me, but those nuts, old and new, seemed soft. I guess that is why FSM recommends replacing them but that seems excessive. Oh well, I did it anyway.

How come that stud is silver? OEM ones I got were back in color.

Mine were black too, but it looks like just a type of surface treatment (like a chemical dip). With supply chain and manufacturing changes lately, probably just a process or source change?
 
I ordered this from the local dealership - not sure why some are silver and others aren't. Was purchased maybe two months ago.

I have the original nut stuck on the flange stub, so the stud is coming out, but I cannot get the nut off of the stud. Any ideas how to get it off? Or just best to buy new studs?

I’ve had this happen a number of times. I just left it on there and screwed it all back in like it was a bolt. Sure made getting the cone washer off a lot easier! Never had a negative consequence. You’re getting the same torque either way.
