So I decided to work on my 80 to tackle the dreded P0402 code for the ERG valve. I read alot of threads about the ERG problems so purchased upper plenum gaskets, throttle body gasket, and the ERG valve. After taking the upper plenum apart I found the port from the throttle body to the ERG port had carbon build up. Now after cleaning the intake pleum the truck accelerates so much better.

Yes it took a while to figure out the problem and I tried everything from cleaning out the carb, Seafoam treatment, and replacing the vacuum hoses. So the last resort was to do upper intake removal and cleaning. I also cleaned out the lower plenum and after putting everything together you can tell the difference during acceleration.

Well the ERG port was pretty much clog and about 1mm of crap in the plenum. I used 3 cans of throttle body cleaner to get most of gunk out. I wish I took some pictures but you how it goes you get busy trying to find everything back together.
