Well I have to believe that it would work....Mythbusters did this on a car to try and destroy the tranny and never succeeded....they have a safety in the tranny to keep it from stopping abruptly...but like they say only leave it for a few seconds.
 
The transmission guy did something similar to my dad's 70 Chevelle SS, back in the late 70's. He put the car in reverse, floored it, got to a good clip, slammed it into drive without ever lifting the throttle. The transmission car NEVER slipped again. There may be some truth to the Dr. J shift...

BTW, I wish he hadn't sold that car!:crybaby:
 
I tried it once in a '70 impala. Fast reverse to drive. Tranny never went into reverse again. Car was about to get towed to a yard anyway so didn't matter and was kind of fun, but I'm not trying it on any of my vehicles.

I am willing to give it another go with a donor truck though?
