i just finished a mild mount modification for a friend's fj60. he has a gm V8, th700 np203grb split case combo and the original "custom" x-member was hard mounted to the factory gm cast iron adapter between the th700 and the 203 grb. no mount at all! so i modified the x-member to accept a mount.

first, clean up the adapter, in this case we used a th350-203 adapter since they work perfect on a th700. inspect for cracks and stripped threads. i like to use a thread chaser anytime i use an old part just to make sure there won't be any issues once the part is installed. might take a little more time but who knows how much time it might save in the long run.....

next i wanted to find a mount that was as easy to use as possible; least amount of mods required and easy to find. the one from a gm full size 4wd truck roughly 90 and up works just about perfect. all i had to do was to drill out the 2 existing mount holes with a 1/2" bit. the makita took care of this without a hitch.

here's a pic of the modified x-member. there are lots of options on how to make an x-member, this is just an example.
if this were to go in a rig that was going to be subjected to a lot of abuse on the trail, i would probably incorporate a second mount into the x-member at the 203-split case adapter to distribute the weight and stress a little better. however, this is going into a DD/trail ride rig so it should suffice.

one of the reasons why i like using this mount as well is that they are very durable. i spent a few years in the transmission industry and never saw one of these break or rip in half, which can't be said for the mount AA likes to use with their adapters. more details on this idea can be found here:

hope this helps. like i said, it's a simple idea and should work well, then again, there are as many different ideas as to how to make an x-member/mount as there are dreamers like me.......;)

no part # but any 4wd truck should have it. last time i looked it up i told them it was a 1993 1 ton 4wd automatic with a big block and they gave me the right mount. should be available at any auto parts place as they're really common, even in the half ton 4wd automatic stuff.

Georg,

Just want everyone to know you are the MAN for doing this for me!!!! Thanks again:beer:
