My 1981 Owners Manual shows a soft-top FJ-40 sold in the US only, but the picture shows hard doors on it. So you may need to look older than 1981 at least.

I don't even care about changing the law, I am am just going to try and get out of it by saying I had no clue about the law and that if he had told me to go home, put the doors on and then come to the cop shop and show him i had changed I would have done that. They should really make this law more public, I see all kinds of jeeps driving with no doors, and not just cjs. Someone at the show told me that some years of the 40's came with some sort of belt/strap that went across the door. Anyone know about that?

strap in the parts catalog see pic

the strap was used on vehicles with soft doors or hard doors

softtop vehicles used the eye bolt ,steel door used the bracket

the strap was included in all 40 series models right up to 1984 FJ40 ,BJ42

was also available for the FJ45 :grinpimp:

I've run without my doors on my ****. It is illegal if your doors were supplied by the factory, but have never got a ticket. Main thing to remember is that you must have at least two mirrors. It can be a "door mirror" and rear-view. But if you run with just the rear-view, they will nail you for sure. I mount mirrors to my windshield frame.
