funny thing is ALL land cruisers came with these ....and.....most end up with the missing socks

I'm pretty sure they only came standard with the soft top models with the eye-bolts on the dash or purchase separate with the plate that bolted to the hinges. I could be wrong though I've never bought a Land Cruiser new.

i thought that to be true also...about 8 years ago a budy and i went to look at an 81 fj40...rotted bad...in a guys driveway...not moved in YEARS.

an old lady answered the door... in her 70's...we asked if the truck was for sale...she said it was not but she would ask her husband...we asked if we could take a look at it...she said sure.

my buddy called a short time later to find he didnt want to sell it .

when we looked and were laughing how bad the rust was in such a short time we were very happy to see oem power steering, a great floor mat front and rear...rear seats that were MINT...a toyota tool bag...in a thin green plastic document holder was an oem owners manual and oem emissions manual...a plug-in toyota mini drop light (still in wrapper)...and also still in wrapper door straps and the hinge bars.

I was VERY surprised to see all of it...now it could have been not standard...it may have been an option...i don't know

But...they may have still come in every year...we'll have to find some original owners :)

If I was going to guess, I would say that the early style, like the ones that were on e-bay, were model (FST-FHT) specific and only came with the soft tops. The early style attached to a collared bolt on the back inside edge of the door jam. The later style which attaches where the striker plate bolts up could be used with either soft top or hardtop models by simply removing the doors and striker plate. I've got an early '64 hardtop that has NO provisions for the early style strap set-up, while another '64 soft top I had did. My '62 FST also has the collared bolt on the rear of the door jam.

when I got my mustard 82 fj40 from the original owner, he went to the attic and came out with the straps brand new.......said they came with the 40 when bought new.

my green 82 may have had them....but the owner is still missing a box of stuff that belong to it, she cant remember when the husband(passed on) did with it.

I suspect they did come in certain years as standard equipment.....but most were lost ages ago(where its cold and the doors never come off)
