Battery died in my key fob Saturday and went to lock the truck with the key in the door - no turn on either DS and PS.

Any locksmiths in the house? Suggestions to get them turning? I've probably used them less than a dozen times in my 19 years of ownership!

WD40, PB Blaster, Silicone spray, graphite powder. I have them all.

I guarantee someone will chime in with "Don't use WD-40, it's a cleaner, not a lubricant."

But do me a favor: Go squirt some in there. I promise by the time you get back to the computer, you'll be able to tell them they're wrong.

I think it is time to sell the cruiser. Too much drama !!! Ha. Use lock graphite powder or spray. It worked for me with the same issue.

:lol::lol: My OCD'ness is really bad! Locks don't work with a key, CB antenna went bad and it took two cables, reworking the ground plane and lots of :censor: with the ohm meter, grinding on right turns that's not the knuckle, but the pinch weld saying hi to my slider, etc. etc. etc.! :censor:  :whoops: At least I enjoyed a nice  last night!

Graphite powder would have been my first choice, but figured I'd solicit advice. Hopefully the stuff is still good! IIRC I bought it to use on my son's soap box derby car wheels/axle when he was in cub scouts! He's 23 now.

Spoke with the FIL this afternoon. Retired EE and one of his 'hobbies' was locksmithing - licensed. He may be 90 with eyesight and hearing not so good any longer, but his mind is sharp as a tack.

He said there is a specific lubricant for locks, but in a pinch a very small amount, with emphasis on very small amount of WD40 should do the trick.

We'll see.

Meh.

You're waaay overthinking it.

Personally, I can't imagine walking out to my rig, finding the lock stuck, noticing the trusty can of WD-40 nearby, and, rather than shooting some in there, deciding, "OH NOES!, Must post up on MUD!!!!11!"

:flipoff2:

just lube the damm thing

on another note, maybe the key blade is wearing out. my locks seem to be a real pain in the ass to open when its cold outside (low 20 F)

Just having fun. :idea::flipoff2:

20F? What's that like? This is a truck raised all her life in SoCal with infrequent ski trips to that kind of weather. :steer: Spare key never used has the same problem. It's the lock cylinders.

I am a locksmith. The best stuff I have found is tri-flo to loosen up stuck wafers. Let it soak and keep working the key in and out. After they loosen up clean it out with brake clean and spray super lube dry film. If you want you can use some graphite and wd-40 but I then get to come out and charge you to clean it out and re lube it with super lube. If you pull them out and take them to a locksmith they wont charge you much to re build them. We only charge $25 per lock.

The locksmith charged me $15 to get mine fixed. Guess what tool he used? WD40! :D
