Annoying title I know...

The key on the right in the image is my master key. Starting the car is fine with this key, but unlocking the car only works in the driver door (and barely at that; you can see the key is pretty worn down). This key is completely waterproof (I kayak and this has been completely submerged and has never had a problem starting the car - I bring this up because I would like to keep it that way and the guy at the dealer seemed to not be able to comprehend this...).

The key on the left in the image can unlock/lock from both the driver side, passenger side and trunk. This key can't start the car though (doesn't have whatever controller is in my current key).

So my question - Does anyone know of a waterproof master key replacement? Or another solution that allows me to unlock the car from all 3 doors (driver, passenger, trunk)?

Other more experienced folks please chime in.

Do you have a master key, meaning: does your security light go off immediately when you insert the key into the ignition? A sub key will turn off the security light after 2 seconds.

You will need a master key to program additional keys. However, if your ECU is at the maximum number of keys, the ECU will need to be flashed to erase all keys.

Also, if your key doesn’t operate the glove box lock, ask Toyota/lock smith to cut the master vs valet version.

Key will require the specific chip version to work properly.

It looks like these two keys are cut differently. Are you sure that either the ignition wasn’t replaced or all of the cylinders in the doors weren’t replaced at some point? Regardless of programming, all cylinders should match as well as have the computer chip in the key. So since you need the Toyota key, it seems like you’re gonna need to replace the cylinders in the front doors and hatch to match…

They look the same to me, one's just more worn. If they both unlock the driver's door, they're the same cut.

I I guess you’re right so that means the worn down key isn’t able to hit the tumblers in the doors very well, but the ignition is worn to that shape now? The ignition would be the most worn cylinder.

Op, I still have an original grey key as well and it works in all cylinders so maybe just an issue with the ignition cylinder not being able to accept the proper cut.

I don't have the master key; been using this sub key (didn't know it was called that) as my main key for a while now.

Just called the dealer and they said ~$80 for the key + cutting the new key, and then ~$150 to program it.

Is this one of those things where I kinda half to bit the bullet and pay that or is there some DIY way to cut and/or program the key I'm not aware of?
