so i have the wire from the dome light, across the top of the driver door. then i dont have anything heading toward the fuse panel or dash.

what is the correct path from the corner where the hard top meets the windshield frame to where it needs to plug in? is the hot female bullet in the center of the dash or near the fuse panel? thanks all!

There should be a wire from that corner of the top down into the windshield frame and into the cowl - there's a hole on each side of the frame for wiring to pass through . It's a real pain to fish a new wire through there - be warned . Make certain the grommet is still there and in good shape .

thanks sarge. is it still a pain you think even with a real fish tape? any idea where the bullet connector it plugs into is at? i could start beeping around down there i suppose.

Not clear on location at the cowl end , never had to deal with mine although I've ran into that wire up in there before - well above the headlight switch and really tough to get your hand in there . Most fish tapes are too heavy - a light gauge piece of wire would probably work better . I think when I pulled the extra wiring for mine to adapt in the door dome switching for the Corolla rearview mirror lamps I used that aluminum 16ga electric fence wire - had to put some odd bends in it to get around the curve of the windshield cutout . The hole in the cowl end is about 1.5" from the outside vertical plane of the windshield if I remember correctly . Easiest way of course would be to fold the windshield frame down ...

Good idea, or baling wire.

For sure. The difference between really hard and really easy. If the windshield gasket isn't lined up, you may never get it in there.

Feel free to correct me, but theres no way to open the windshield without taking the top off right?

Isnt there a hole at the bottom of the pillar the dome light is on? Perhaps i could run a wire down and along the floor for the winter until spring when i plan on taking the top off......

You are correct, top must come off. I did all mine with the top on. I used a coat hanger to fish the wire through. Difficult but not impossible.

I pulled my windshield frame off without ever moving the top-You can pry up the top enough to get the WS frame to fold down as long as you take out the front frame corner bolts/screws. Be careful with the top frame rubber seal. If I remember correctly, I removed the WS hinges first, then the top bolts for the WS frame to the top seal plate. You have to shift the frame out from the bottom-being very careful of the wiper wiring harness(it's very short and tight) Once out do the repair. When reinstalling, use a lot of silicone as a lube and seal--the bottom gasket can kink easily.

You can connect a piece of light string with frayed ends to the wire and use a vacuum from one hole to another to suck it through.

Bam!! Easy peasy.
