Okay - another post up for a friend here at work with a '97. Dome light isn't coming on when opening the DS rear door. He's already replaced the switch and checked the ground. He's also replaced PS rear door switch as well and works just fine so no apparent issue with the dome light itself.

Anything else anyone can suggest he look into?

Corosion on the connections of the switch?

I would double-check the ground. In fact, I'd manually gound it to see if it works. Then I'd check the switch itself to be sure it's working. If the switch works, then it can only be ground or wire. If grounding manually works, I'd say you just haven't established a good ground.

On my PS front door, that switch used to drive me nuts. Would go on and off all the time if you hit a bump. The switch is plastic/insulated, so the only ground point I could find is thru the metal ring washer that bolts it to the body. If the rings are too deep on either side of the switch (i.e., too much plastic; ring is not exposed at the surface), then the bolt may not make good contact with the switch and establish ground. I packed some copper anti-seize in there before replacing and have not had a problem since.

I second on the ground connection. I can't even remember now how it behaved, but I was having issues with my middle row light. When I took it apart everything checked out, but then I nocited that one of the screws holding the assembly was different than the other 3...it was the one making the ground connection and wasn't conducting a proper ground. Swapped one with the other and it's never failed since.

If you have power with a test light to the socket (you have tested it right?). Then it has to the ground as you are completing the circuit to a different ground, or the bulb is bad not much else between power and ground.

I had a ground wire on a heep that drove me crazy and it was for the master window controller. The wire broke down to a couple of strands, so I still had continuity but the resistance was too great to run the window motors.... Stupid Heep

the bulb?
