Hello , this is my first post .

I recently purchased a 100 series Land Cruiser which has been a joy to drive daily and has been a dream car of mine for years . It is high miles but still drives like new .

The issue that me and my father noticed the same day I bought it was that the interior lights do not turn on when the doors are opened or when you unlock the car . Including the courtesy lights on the door .

Background:
2004 Land Cruiser 100 series
Navi and JBL system
Completely stock mechanically
Does have a second row roof mounted DVD player that currently does not turn on which replaced the dome lights. I am pretty sure it is aftermarket since there is no DVD changer in the rear quarter panel and it does not seem like Toyota quality .

What I’ve tried :
I checked all 3 fuse boxes and checked fuses related to the dome lights first , then went ahead and did a quick glance of every fuse to see if there were any blown . All were good.
I’ve tried playing with the dimmer control by the steer wheel and only controlled the gauges and center screen brightness .
When pressing on the display button on the screen , the top says “REAR: OFF” is highlighted and does nothing if I press it (not sure if this is related to the interior lights at all).

My assumption of what is going on is that the OEM dome lights features a (On, Door, Off) switch on them, and when this over head dvd player was installed , the lights were not left in the Door position . Another assumption I have is that there is some relay that isn’t functioning . Another assumption is that it is related to maybe the BCM , just because the tilt AND telescoping feature on the steering wheel also does not work. When moving the switches I don’t hear any power at all being drawn to the tilting and telescoping motors . Also not sure if it’s related to the interior lights.

The roof mounted dvd player does have dome lights on the sides of it that does not turn on and I don’t see any button to turn them on .

Has anyone had similar issue where the interior lights and courtesy lights didn’t turn on when opening the doors ? And what was the solution you found ? Like I’ve said, I’ve checked all fuses and checked for any interior light switches . Thank you in advanced

lol funny enough when I was installing my new speakers , after removing the door panel , all the door lights were just disconnected for some reason. Seems like the previous owner disconnected them but I don’t know why. I’ve had them connected for 2 months now and haven’t had any issues. However the top front dome lights still don’t turn on when I open the doors . I am assuming it is because of the entertainment screen in the back replacing the center dome lights still. Whoever installed it probably didn’t wire it so it would turn in the front dome lights when the door is opened. Cause I know on the OEM center dome light , it has a switch for on off and door .

Thanks for responding!

I’m having a similar issue after sending my vehicle to an upholstery place to get new leather installed. Now my door locks and lights don’t work. Check the fuses and found nothing blown. I’ll keep hunting.

Good luck with yours as well!

The 2004 had a factory overhead entertainment option. Is yours OEM, or aftermarket? If it's OEM, there are options in the NAV/Audio ECU for settings.

If they worked before and don't work now, they unplugged something. Go back and ask them what they did to take out whatever they worked on, but whatever you do, don't ask them to fix the problem.

I’m not sure . I am pretty certain it’s one of those aftermarket overhead entertainment options that get installed at the dealer . Since I’ve read Toyota didn’t have an OEM one they just had third party overhead systems installed at the dealer as an option. My Nav screen when I press the screen button does have an option that says “screen off” on top but it doesn’t do anything when I press it. The overhead unit in my Land Cruiser has never turned on since I bought the car.

The overhead entertainment system was a factory option, but dealer installed in the US. I had one in my 2004 Land Cruiser.

There is a complete troubleshooting section in the service manual and EWD for this system. FWIW, there wouldn't be a control option on the screen if it was an aftermarket system.
