Great info in this thread. Makes me happy to have joined. The VW board I came from would roast someone for posting this much detail about car seat mounting. Hell my VW’s have only have waist belts in the back.

Also, I don’t have kids. I don’t even like kids.

Ha! All too true. I can't imagine the response this thread would get over at Pirate... That being said, that's why I love this forum so much. Without guessing as to the demographic/socioeconomic/etc. reasons behind it, people on Mud generally appreciate well thought out, logical opinions and information, regardless of topic. It aligns with the OCD perfectionism that seems to be shared by so many members here. Intentionality behind everything we do. Even if it means a constant battle with overthinking things. 🤷‍♂️

Now.....ask about what oil to use, what tires are the best, or how to get the best gas mileage and we're going to turn on you.......

Well, here’s how we transported the kids in Africa about a decade ago before tethers...

Case and point with Congo there haha, people have been doing it with less for a lot longer. I’d trust my child in an 80 and a britax seat any day.

When I was growing up here in the US, cars didn't come with seat belts. If your parents thought there was about to be a wreck, they would shoot their arm out in front of you to hold you in the car (am curious how many people on Mud remember those days). We were basically projectiles waiting to be expelled at high speed from the car. Since it happened fairly frequently, you now have carseats. The world is a really different place today with the fabulous safety feature cars are made with. My first car was a 61 Ford Fairlane and it had a completely metal dashboard. You wouldn't believe some of the grizzly wrecks I happened upon in my youth. I have had my Landcruiser since 1997 and I still mentally picture it as incredibly safe!

BTDT!!!!

I have a 59 Studebaker that we still do the same as we cruise around!

My car has the extra safety of a "knee pad" on the front edge of the all steel dash!
