As my vehicle description indicates, I haul two Chesapeake Bay retrievers in the back of my rig almost every day. They are well behaved but cannot resist sticking their noses on the windows. I do not have window tinting but want it. Will I have problems with the tint by cleaning the dog snot off? What do you use?

Windex Multi Tast with vinegar, It's ammonia free which I hear is bad for tint.

I can say, that I have permanent nose prints on my tint. Stuff won't come off the film. I will also point out that my tint is 20 years old, put on when the rig was first purchased, and severely needs to be re-done. The newer tints are much better quality, more sophisticated, and may very well clean up better. You will want to ask the installer about this, as they will know better than I. And as long as I am pointing things out, I will say that I HATE cleaning windows. I don't know why, I just do. Therefore, I only clean my glass on a "need be" basis, and, since I can't see out of the bottom part of the back windows anyway (that's as high as my Am-Staff reaches), I don't fell that I "need" to clean them that often...or ever. If one were to clean the nose prints off regularly, before they got baked by the sun, they may clean off without much difficulty.

My Bouvier is an impressionist artist. Charges $$$ for his custom window tinting. Gave up on clean windows long ago. Great security system.

as suggested, use an ammonia free cleaner and you're good. I like the snot marks- the hard-water stains IH8, but the dog stuff makes me smile.

here's my method for cleaning

My simple method to clean tinted windows goes like this:

get a generic spray bottle, fill with water and put like 2-4 drops of dish detergent in; just enough to get a little sudsy. don't put too much in there, the detergent goes a long way. make your wife happy and take two of your old pit-stained white shirts out of the drawer. ;-)

spray the very diluted soapy solution on the windows, gently clean with one rag, then 'buff' with the the other one. basically you'll have a cleaning rag and a dry one. spray, wipe, dry-off/buff clean. been doing this for years and years.

I've noticed that as clean as we think are furry friends are!!! The dust and dirt that inevitably get's in ther noses is like an abrasive actually scratches the polyester film.
So really you can't get it clean it's damaged. There are some polishes but I don't think the will be very effective on 20 yo tint.
Newer films are much more durable, 3M and others have a coating to resist. I think the key is two wipe it down early and often,so they can't continually rub and sand so to speak the film into obscurity!

I have not been terribly concerned, as I mentioned, my tint needs to be redone anyway. The rear hatch window is terribly bubbled, and the sides are beginning to get that way as well. I have heard many times that the newer films are a much better product, and when I redo them I will take better care of it. Good to hear different options for better cleaning the film!

There is a glass cleaner that you can get at costco, and other places, called spray away that is amonia free and great for tinted windows.
