I am about to become a 100 owner shortly (more on that to come), and one of the big reasons I love this chassis is because it's got a nice, roomy area behind the second row where I can put my very large dog. I don't know yet if I'll need one of those metal dividers or not, but does anyone use one? Anyone have a recommendation for/against a particular one? I'd love to hear.

I've done a lot of poking around on this exact subject.

The conclusion I've come to is that I actually like the soft cargo net option - my thought process on it is if you're hoping to prevent your dog from flying through the cabin in the event of an unfortunate event, something with a little bit of give would be good for the dog vs slamming into a metal barrier.

Of course, the back of the second row is pretty solid, but I still think that the cargo net is better for this application. Raingler Nets (raingler.com) have been fantastic in my communication with them to this point and I haven't even purchased anything yet.

One other thing to consider (depending on the type of dog you have, of course), is the dog's ability to move throughout the cabin if someone tries to break in. My dog is a big as well and is quite the deterrent, but if he's confined to the cargo area, there's not much he can do. I'd obviously rather have him survive an accident than getting in someone's face if they try to break in.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to keep him safe in case I get into a wreck but the above thinking is really in regards to a sudden and unexpected stop. Protecting a dog in a rollover or any accident is very tough regardless but a solid crate is probably best.

Hope that helps! I'm interested in seeing what other people think as well.

Have the Raingler, and love it. It's a soft landing I hope I never need, and it doubles as a cargo net to hold down all the heavy stuff when I'm out wheeling. And it folds up and stuffs in any one of the weirdly-shaped storage spaces in the back of the LX. I've since forgotten his name, but the guy that runs Raingler is great to deal with.

I don't think it's necessarily designed to double as a cargo net :hillbilly:, but it works well for me and a pair of boxers. The dogs, ya know.

My Barrier will fit 98-02 100 Series Trucks. After that they all got side curtain air bags. You can order from the link below. Even have it in stock currently.

I’m not here to debate which is better. My opinion should be obvious but I also recognize everyone has different needs and tastes.

The grid pattern on my Barrier is 2”x4”. Only a very small dog can sneak around the side. Our mini Aussie manages to do so in my 80 Series. The 100 fits the side a little tighter. I can’t get my hand through my Barrier. Sometimes that sucks.

I have a Great Pyrenees in case it matters. Should have mentioned that in my first post :)

Speski for me! Found one used and it was one of my first upgrades. 50lb Shepherd mix rides great back there. She tends to leans on the cargo barrier a lot so I am glad it is heavy duty. I also like that I can strap heavy gear to it.

One downside is that with the addition of drawers, my 12lb Sheltie mix is up high enough that when she gets nervous she can barely squeeze through a narrow gap on the passenger side. It is also a pain in the butt to remove since it is pretty heavy and the bolts are hard to line up. That means most large items get transported on the roof. Long skinny, items might be able to squeeze underneath it with the seats folded down. Sorry my photos of the barrier are not great but you get the idea.

@Corbet : I love the look of your divider, but I've been struggling to find something like this:

I'd love to be able to put my vizsla in the back and load gear next to her (I have no need for drawers at the moment) and not have to worry about stuff toppling onto her around corners. Any chance you've considered something like this? Another challenge would be that I've got an '06 with the rear side curtain airbags.

Looks like you make a great product, just thought I'd throw something out there!

A lot of these barriers look good, like indestructible. Do any of them fold up post-install? I ask because I also plan to use this SUV to pick up a variety of furniture while we "nest" our house for the upcoming baby. LOL... the 100 is part of my 6-month "master plan" right now.

Also, I'm going to hijack my own thread to see what kind of rear cargo area rubberized mats you all like. If you can't tell, I'm going to configure the back of my car as a free-roaming dog zone ;)

I’ve considered building a vertical divider for folks with drawers but never a floor to ceiling divider. The only thing that has stopped me on one for drawers is that there is not a standard height for said drawers. Your the first to request this. Personally I’ve built a simple platform for my dog to sit on along with a fridge. I’ve got about 13” from memory under for storage. My 100lb malamute still has plenty of room standing even with the fridge. You’ll have to imagine it without the big yellow duffle.

All that said I can’t help with your 2006.

I’ve had many requests for this, a folding barrier. The sides of a 100/80/4Runner are all at an angle. So the bottom of the barrier is wider than the top. It’s not as simple as just allowing it to pivot at the top. Also my mounting brackets are also at that same angle, so if you simply loosed up the bolts the whole system would bind.

I’m not saying it can’t be done. But can it be done affordaby? That is the question. What would you pay for a barrier that folded up so you could sleep or load larger items under it?

I had a husky liner and did not like it way back when I was stock.

Which one do you have? - I see on their web site that they offer two for the 100, one that fits just behind the front seat - and one that fits at different places I think.

That brand is Travall. My wife has that exact same barrier and divider in her subaru forester. Their barrier is good and I would recommend it if they had one for the 100 series. Not sure that it helps anyone here, but their middle divider part is weak and really only meant to separate light weight items. The item itself is quality but I think the reality of a "free floating divider" is that it will be weak unless it is thick gauge steel, either bolted or welded for strength. The Travall divider is basically designed to wedge between the soft panels on the floor and ceiling. The part of the divider that actually fastens to the barrier is rather small. I don't blame Travall for selling me something that I thought I had wanted, but if you want a really strong divider similar to what is pictured, you will have to go custom. After the experience I had with my wife's forester, I came to the conclusion for my 100 that carrying gear on the bottom and putting dogs on top made the most sense for our pack. It takes advantage of the tall vertical height in the cargo area and gives them more real estate to stretch their legs on long journeys.

Good honest info there. If I were to build a divider like that in my truck it would be secured to my platform base and I’d run a rear top bracket over to the 3rd row seat belt bolt on the top of the “D” pillar. It would then be basically bomber.

Speski for me. Love it.

Our greyhound, Big Rig, couldn't care less. She just sleeps all the time.

Sorry to go off topic here, but what kind of drawers are those?
