:) ....deserve to be classified as a Landcruiser? It's basically a re-badged Prado. I don't hear a lot of discussion about it around here.

It's a Land Cruiser.

There has been a little discussion...

Right now it's grouped under the Diesel Tech section. Not too many folks in the US buy the 470's that are cruiser enthusiasts.

My neighbor just bought one, very nice.. similar to the 100 but a bit narrower. Still has the V-8.

Yep, I agree, definetly a Cruiser. I see them on the road and the first thought I have is "there goes a Prado" But thats cause I have some of the 4WD Monthly Australia articles with it tested in there.

Since the GX470 shares the same platform as the 4Runner, does that make the 4Runner a cruiser?

The FJ cruiser shares the same platform...

I just got finished borrowing my dad's GX 470 to go out to Colorado. What a great truck. We hit a good 10 hours of bad weather on the way out(up over Vail Pass) and I never once have to lock the diff or put it into 4-low. The traction control on it worked perfectly. The v-8 puts out lots of good clean power. The truck cruises at 90 with out breaking a sweat. The sound system also is perfect. I also love the built in navigation. I think I'm a bit spoiled now. Hopefully in a few years he'll sell it to me...For a family price :P

GOOD question. Do the older Prados share the same platform as the 2nd Gen Runner/Surf/HiLux?

I thought the GX470 was based on a Sequoia?

Nope. The Sequoia and the Tundra share the same platform.

Prado/4Runner/GX470/Tacoma/FJCruiser are the same platform

so is that sloppy 4ths or 5ths? what a dirty little whore of a frame:grinpimp:

I don't see why not.

so is the drive train the same or different in the 4runner and the prada
It's the same for the V6 4Runners/Prados, the Prado/UZJ120 Land Cruiser also share diesel drive trains in foreign markets. I believe the GX only comes in full-time 4WD ... so technically it doesn't share the same drive train as the V8 4Runner/Tacoma, but pretty close.

Fulltime 4WD is standard on US V8 4Runners so I assume it's the drive train as the GX470.

90-series Prado is/was available with 3.4L V6, the same engine as the previous gen 4Runnder.

so it would seem that the current 4 runner could almost be considered a land cruiser. I was looking on autotrader the other day, and the v8 4x4 4runner has an equitant resale as the same year cruisers. the 2003 4 runner and cruiser were basically the same price.
