the size of the hole that is on the 2F exhaust manifold where the EGR tube is tapped off?

I have a broken stud on that EGR take-off and now have developed a leak (most annoying). I would like to avoid taking the manifold off to repair it and simply remove (or break) the remaining stud and EGR pipe, and then tap and plug the hole.

I figure it's probably a large hole, but I should be able to reach a tap up there and thread it for a large (short) bolt.

So, does anyone have an exhaust manifold lying around that can measure the diameter of the EGR port that resides toward the rear of the manifold? Thanks. I know I could just remove mine and measure it, but before I go to that point of no return, I would like to know what I am gettign into, i.e. is it possible to tap it and bolt in a plug....

Marc

Sweet - thanks man!

Any luck with this? Thanks!

I think it is 25mm.

I know that I plug them by cutting a 1/2" thick coin off a 1" round bar, then MIGging it up in the hole against the shoulder. (there is a slightly reduced shoulder in the hole to keep the pipe from going in too deep.)

Also be aware that it is impossible to MIG weld mild steel to cast iron, this won't work, it will crack, all your hair will fall out, etc.:meh:

Whatever, it's just a plug. Clean it, preheat w/ torch, then weld it.
