Just purchased my 16 460. Looking at adding a dobinsons lift and possibly an Ironman front bumper. I know these brands are tried and true in Australia. But how do they hold up to us that happen to live in the Midwest where they salt the roads and stuff. Thanks

Salt kills everything. I grew up in Chicago and learned early on if you want steel to survive the winters wash it well and wash it often.

That is true, but from my experience some things do better than others.

Most of the Dob's line, Ironman too, is coated...meaning not bare metal. So in theory they should hold up better than the likes of Fox & Icon. There are a few products out there that I've used with success here on the east coast. Mavcoat Steel Shield is one of those. It's basically a temporary clear coat. Dries non-tacky and doesn't attract particulates like Fluid Film.

Thanks. My icons didn't hold up as well as expected. I do get my vehicles fluid filmed every year also.

The Dobinsons do hold up well. The biggest issue is the rear shocks are mounted forward of the rear axle, so they're exposed to salt and debris spray, so the paint can get washed off any brand of shocks before too long with the right bad conditions.

I've suggested to people if they're concerned about the appearance of the shocks to get some clear 3M wrap, thick stuff, and wrap them before installing them to give an additional barrier to keep the paint fresh.

The paint Dobinsons uses is Enamel, so it's as tough as it can get. Dobinsons shocks also come in black as an option for the 150 series models.

A lot of those blokes down under are constantly on the beach, surfing, fishing, camping, etc. Australia is not like California where there is hardly any place we can drive on a beach. Down there, they drive all over on their beaches. And they have a LOT of beaches! So I can guarantee that ARB bumpers see a LOT of salt water!
