What’s up everyone, it’s been many years since I’ve posted on mud! Anyway, I decided it was time to upgrade my 7 year old nitro charger shocks and went with the Dobinson 6” IMS. Here is where I didn’t do enough research… I am still currently running the OME J heavy springs which only provide about 4 inches of lift if I’m not mistaken. The new shocks were painfully difficult to install, and seemed to be too close to bottoming out almost immediately. Anyway, I am reaching out for anyone who has any sort of advice on what I should do next! I was thinking of getting some different springs but still don’t want to go sky high!

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Hello All! I guess what I was really aiming to ask here was what size bump stops do I need to purchase so my currently installed shocks don’t bottom out? As well as any other advice regarding coil spring setups and anything else I’ve forgotten about!

Thanks!!

So, you bought shocks for 6" lift? And you are trying to use them with J springs that 'may' give you 4".

You should purchase shocks that provide the up/down travel you need for the springs you are running. This gives a balanced articulation range. Then set bump stops to limit bottoming out conditions as needed.

Why did you purchase such tall shocks?

cheers,
george.

I’ve got 6” IMS shocks and OME 2.5” heavy coils. There is not much up travel left on the shock at a low ride height, I’ve noticed I’ve bottomed out the shocks driving around so need to increase my bumpstop. I have a 2” drop spacer currently. I still need to go flex it out and see how much more I need to add or just get larger bumpstops and keep the same 2” spacer.

I prefer a low ride height, but still want a long shock for down travel. I am running 37s though so need to limit up travel regardless unless I start cutting. I had Fox 2.0 shocks and would lift a rear tire off the ground when wheeling.

This is basically what I was looking for, I need to get an extended bump stop and add a spacer it seems. Do you have any recommendations as far as a brand goes? Thanks for the response!

Thanks for the response! I will more than likely be purchasing some new springs that will be more useful for my application in the very near future. I purchased long shocks mainly for the longer down travel etc…
