do you get vibrations with your sliders? (7 Viewers)

Do folks think that turning the cats would help, making them horizontal? Or is this a waste of time? I was thinking of doing it anyway to tuck them up in there a little better.

Todd, first diddo is just me kidding and meaning ditto.

Second, i asked about turning the cats and from what i was told it's really more trouble than it's worth. Supposidly, it doesn't really get them up any further, maybe an inch but that's about it.

No jokes about getting them up!

OK then, I'll bag that idea. Didn't really feel like taking that slider off again anyway. I'm kind of getting used to the vibration anyway. My passenger on the way to the Roundup, probably not going to be quite so happy.

Todd, this weekend i'm going to take the slider that runs under the cats off, and leave the other one on. THis should tell us if it's a cat resonating issue. I'll post back. In the mean time, you can think of some real witty responses!

Your passenger is the same guy that drove from Kentucky to Windrock in a 40 with no top(He did have a very snazzy Elmer Fudd hat though.) I am sure a little vibration would not be offensive.

I've read alot about George's plans. Could someone post a link to them. I can probably use some equipment at work to produce cardboard tmplates of all the pieces to verify fit issues and get an idea of build difficulty.

Thanks

You'll find link to the slider info if you scroll down. Lots of good info here.

I've already done this. Mine quit resonating. As it did when I stood 300 pounds on it after re-attaching.

Notably he's not driving his 40 to Katemcy either though. He may be expecting some non-vibrating creature comforts. My prediction though is that he'll right away mention that we could really amuse the lot lizards with this feature.

(Worst case he goes on the roof in the cargo bag that I got off eBay for $12.)

For those of you who are considering turning the cats, I've done this and I'm not sure if I"m feeling any vibes of the nature that everyone is describing. My biggest issue is that the pinch weld on the driver side is contacting the sliders upon right turns. The body is squashing the body bushings and making slight contact with teh sliders. I'll try to listen for the vibes ya'll are talking about tonight on my way home. If I hear this freqency, I'll pump air into them to see if that makes a difference.

There're seveal paint manufacturers on the web that specialize in thick paint for sound deadening and temperature barrier. Perhaps, this is a viable sollution. I have reservations on adding water to a ferrous metal due to corrosion and freezing. Plain sand may be a better idea.

Ali, for me it's more of feeling the vibrations as opposed to hearing them. Let us know.

Which sliders are you running and did they resonate before you turned the cats?

Todd,

I made a set of George's sliders and I turned the cats on the 2nd day of vehicle ownership so I wouldn't know!! My cats do sometimes hit the slider bracket when I'm towing or if the truck is full of gear.

Is this only with george's sliders? Cause im thinking about getting slee sliders. Do those vibrate?

I don't think the vibration issue is isolated to any one person's plans or design.
Some vibration issues are worse than others -- or some people's butts are more sensitive than others.

I have some vibration at times, but in my case, it could be tire, driveline, and/or slider related. My vibration isn't too bad.

If you're concerned about vibration and sliders...just remember -- it's better to live with a little vibration than have to shell out $$$ for rocker repairs.

wow...
that would mean reading through all the posts, remembering what people have posted, digesting the information and postulating a relevant question before posting.

I think you're expecting too much from the lad.

As for vibration -- I think I should clarify that I'm not talking about anything audible. I did have some slider related banging once. I checked all the bolts and found one nut that was slightly loose. After tightening that one nut, I've never heard anything thing (shaking/banging/vibrating) related to the sliders.

Nice Doug!

I really plan on trying to make my sliders vibration free. It's tough to mess with them when it's below freezing outside, sleeting/rain and i don't have a garage. It's just that the cruiser was driving so silky smooth, then i added the sliders and i've been fighting the vibration issue now for about 2 months. I like to be protected, but yet enjoy the silky smooth feeling. ;)
