Confession time. Tho I been hanging out here for a while, I've done jack on my own cruiser. The last time I wrenched was on an MGA almost 30 years ago. So, I'm a total newbie, and I'm gonna need a lot of help.

Here's the kicker: I bought my truck with the plan to convert it to diesel. So it's now running a 12-HT courtesy of Cruiser Solutions. Of course, that doesn't make it "new". I've got some breaking in & troubleshooting to do. And nothing in the FSM looks exactly like what it looks like under my hood. :o

1st post was the roof rack/rain gutter: I need to do fresh sealant. That's easy.

The 2nd issue should also be pretty easy. One of my power steering lines sprang a leak. Now I have some home made rust coating down the passenger side engine compartment. I found the source of the leak, and I have 2 questions:

1. Am I going to screw up any parts if I drive without ATF in the PS system?

2. I'm using the FJ-60 manual downloaded from here. Is there another FSM that's more detailed? I can't identify the exact configuration of the hose that's leaking, and I'd rather have the new hose in hand when I take off the old one.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! :hillbilly:

Sweet...

You can download a manual for the 12HT engine from here: Master Portal - forums.bauchan.org/Toyota Workshop & Repair Manuals

You might have better luck over in the diesel forum. That power steering reservoir doesn't look like the one I have, and I wonder why it says to use power steering fluid, when most of the FJ60's use ATF.

Running the power steering pump dry will probably be bad for it. If you can take that belt off you might be OK to run without it (assuming nothing else important is driven by the belt).

BS, you just wanted to post pics of the schweet oil-burner! haha

Ask the diesel folks, and def. do not run it w/ the pump dry in the meantime.

Thanks. I'll leave it in the driveway today :crybaby:. (That engine is sweet, btw...)

Hey, I'm just making sure, I downloaded "F-Engine Manual" from the linked site. (Thanks) Would this also cover 2F as I have in my FJ60?
