after thinking long and hard. I do hate rust. Mechanical I am fine with, I do not like dealing with rust. I have had plenty of years playing with it on older Jeeps.
The hunt continues, thank you all for your input

I purchased my cruiser about 7 months ago it has been in the northeast its whole life but I got a very good deal on it. It has a lot of rust, though less then your example. The rust has been a serious pain in the ass for me because I added quite a bit of after market skid plates, shocks etc underneath. I have broken at least half a dozen bolts underneath and had to cut off my OEM shocks (**** you rust!). I repaired the broken bolts mostly by drilling and re-tapping them. If you buy this truck keep in mind that every time you need to repair or replace something anywhere near the bottom of your cruiser, you will be likely breaking a bolt or three. This will cause a lot of extra time and money to execute said repairs. Especially if you just plan on buying and driving it while performing regular maintenance I would consider buying it. However, if you plan on modding it, keeping it for a very long time and are not inclined to do a lot of rust related repairs and maintenance, you should consider a different cruiser.
I have broken several bolts on the splash guards and the one connected to the transfer case. Frustrating. Two nights ago, I was attempting the AHC flush and fill. Well, the zerk fitting just broke off on the Accumulator! I went ahead with PB Blaster on the globes and just flushed the four corners and am praying the Accumulator doesn't leak and make my LX look like a pimp-mobile.X2 on this.
I bought a rust belt 2006 LC100 last year and I removed the factory splash guards underneath for an exhaust repair and broke 2 bolts while re-installing it. The front splash guard was completely missing when I bought it and there is a dealer note about it rattling. It appears the PO just ripped it off or drug it on something because there are pieces of the middle guard that have been scrubbed off. Underneath this thing, every bolt puts up a fight and I get a face full of rust whenever I touch anything. It's all surface rust and there is no structural weakness but it sure is a PITA. Someday soon, I will crawl under there and drill out the broken bolts so I can put skid plates on. The rust doesn't worry me too much but I would like to have it cleaned up and treated. The rear mud guard bracket behind the passenger side wheel was completely rusted away so I have some zip ties holding that in place. I looked under the rear bumper and there are huge portions of it that have just rusted away. Not a big problem for me because I will replace that bumper with something more off-road friendly anyway. My upper hatch on the rear was completely missing the handle, although the bars were still in place (although very rusty). I bought the handle and the entire latch but did not install the latch, just the handle. That was a cheap fix and seems to be a common issue up north. I'll replace the match when it breaks.
Also, I dread having to remove the spare tire because I might have to break a bunch of crap to get it out. It is likely frozen in place due to rust. I am getting ready to put on new tires so I will just have the tire dealer deal with it.![]()
