I am a DIY novice (hardest job to-date was to replace headlight bulbs). The cable on my iPhone adapter has gone bad (have to wiggle it just so to get 2-channel sound). I found the replacement cable and it looks like a plug and play. The hardest part seems to be getting to the unit to plug it in. I attached a photo of where the cable comes out of my transmission tunnel and of a screw on the trim panel behind where the plug comes out (sorry for the dirty interior--clearly it's time for a detail).

My first question is how to get the trim panel (the one in front of the panel with the screw) off? Is it as simple as removing the screw on the panel behind it?

My second, and more important, question is how hard this is likely to be after I get the panel off? Will I be able to just follow the cable to the adapter unit? Do you think it's likely I'll have to remove other pieces/components? I don't know exactly where the unit is because the stereo shop did the install. FWIW, based on the cable length, there's probably about 3-3.5 feet of cable behind the trim.

Thanks in advance!!!

White and black pieces should just come apart. Looks like there may be two "buttons" on the outsides (skinny sides) of the black plug that will release the white cable. From there you should be able to replace that cable as that is an old female iphone adapter to male lightning port cable.

Thanks, I should have been more clear. The problem is in the black "old iPhone plug" adapter. I'll have to replace that cable. Then I'll use the white adapter (which is good) to go from the 30-pin to lightning.

Thanks again!

the FSM describes exactly how to open up the center console. its very easy. about as easy as changing the headlights.
