Hello, the passenger side headlamp on my 2015 LX570 suffered some parking lot damage and nearly the entire plastic/polycarbonate lense cover was broken out. The bulbs are intact and I don't believe that any other damage occurred to the assembly. I've searched the forum and wasn't able to find any insight into DIY repairs. I have been able to find replacement assemblies on line and would be willing to use a non OEM replacement if possible. My question is how difficult swaping it out will be? Thanks for any help the forum can provide.

If like on two other Toyota rigs I have done (Tacoma & Rav4) it is a bit of a PITA because one has to remove the front grill/bumper. And one will likely break some of the plastic pop rivets (or find some missing). I would suggest going OEM and buying during a sale, see Fred Anderson I have done that on both vehicles.

I personally would not use non oem assemblies. The LX has HID ballasts and servos for AFS. It’s very complicated. Also in my experience with Depo and others, the plastic is super low quality.

To replace the assemblies you do have to pull the grill and bumper but don’t let others scare you. Basic steps:

1. You need to pull the underside aprons and front fender liners. They are clips and torx bolts
2. Remove the engine covers if you have them
3. The grill will have bolts in the top along the radiator support and be clipped to the bumper skin along the bottom. Just work slow and don’t forget to disconnect the camera
4. Disconnect headlight washers, clamp the lines and firm tug
5. Unclip each parking sensors but leave plugged in
6. Start from the wheel well and pop off the bumper skin

Once you’ve done that you’ll have full access to top and bottom of the assemblies

Thank you for the replies, gentlemen. OEM it is.. I'm guessing I can re-use my existing bulbs since they are not damaged? Thanks again for passing on your knowledge and experience!

You can replace the outer lenses with aftermarkets. They will not be as good as oem but for the price, it's a great DIY option. I would recommend having PPF applied for the UV protection aspect once new lens is on. It's not a super easy process for the average Joe, but any DIYer should be able to hike up their big boy pants and pit the headlight in the oven to get it opened up and a new lens installed. I've done hundreds of headlights over the last 9 years. This setup is getting new lenses while they're open for customization.
