Hello everyone!

Here is the situation. I have a 78 FJ-40 that I have pulled the original engine because of its poor running codition, compression test came back with numbers around 80 psi. I have purchased a motor from a 77 that was rebuild less than 25,000 miles ago and is in great shape. The motor out of the 77 has a Weber set up and a Non-USA Vacum advance distributor that was purchased from Specter.

I am planning on running the Weber until I can get my original carb rebuilt but I am wondering which distributor would work the best? From my understanding both are electronic vacum advance distributors?

Thank you for your advice!

The 77 has a point type ignitor while the '78 is fully electronic. Neither one is designed to work optimally with a Weber carb, but either one will work. Your pick. I would pick the '78. If you swap distributors pay special attention to seating the distributor fully to engage the oil pump and make sure that you have oil pressure before you start it up. Otherwise you could sieze your new engine.
