First thing I'd ask is this: are the drums in good working order?

How do you plan on using your truck?

Consider this:

First there were drums.

Then they invented disc brakes, so you could lock them up and stop on a dime.

Then they added anti-lock because when it really counts, locking brakes is bad.

So, modern disc brakes stop like well-tuned drum brakes, but you won't be converting your FJ45 to antilock discs....

both ends are quite easy to change over. You can pretty easily end up with the big cruiser calipers front and rear, so same brakes all around.

if you bought all the break stuff new to do the conversions, it'd probably end up costing a bit too. 4 vented rotors, 4 calipers, bit of machining on the rear hubs, 4 disc break knuckles ( two complete ones for the front, two bare knuckles for the rear as caliper brackets)
but you can usually find the parts used, minitruck knuckles etc. but all that's for 4 wheel discs, if you were only going to change the front's it's no big deal....just swap on some minitruck knuckles....

then you'd probably need a booster from a newer truck ( maybe?) and you'd definately need a proportioning valve.( for 4 wheel discs)

cheers,
ryan

FJ45 man all you need to change over on the front is the solid mini truck axle or later 'Cruiser front axle. Your inner axles may be a different length than what you get but you should be able to swap inner axles. The other stuff should just bolt up to your housing. That is what I did on my FJ45LV.
You will also need a booster and master as well as a few other bits and pieces.

thanks for the enfo its been very helpfull

I'll have a whole whack of 45 drum brake stuff left over soon, not sure if it's been re-done or not, but I suspect it has.

if you were closer, you could bribe me with a beer or two and it'd be yours, but it may be heavy and $ to ship ( don't think we could get any further apart inside canada ! )

cheers,
ryan

yeah your right, im finding that with all aspects of this restoration, nova scotia is about the worst place for finding 45 parts..... i no of one other one in the province. but i am making progress its just slow going.

My canadian 2 cents

There are a few places in New Hampshire with good 45 parts like cruiser solutions, cruiserparts, and north country cruisers. Not exactly down the street from you but I'd guess they are the closest. Hop on the high speed ferry and load up on any big parts you'll need in one trip. Might save you $$$ in shipping for bigger and heavier items.
