Got her torn apart in the garage. In the middle of replacing valve cover gasket, fan clutch, and thermostat. Things are going pretty well...not easy, but I'm managing to get it done, except I'm stuck at "Disconnect engine wire and heater valve from cowl panel".

I envisioned removing the four bolts, moving those pesky tubes out of the way, and having at my valve cover, but its just not that easy. The manual states "disconnect the ground strap and engine wire", and "disconnect the heater valve". They make it sound so simple. I would really appreciate an overly detailed description on how to disconnect these items.

Thanks

A night's sleep and what...no response yet...cmon cruiser community...I need you.

What you need is motivation, so here it is. Just look at the parts and determine what needs to be unbolted or removed, and do it. It is as simple as the manaul describes. Don't make it out to be any more complicated than it is.

try it without removing those items, I dont remember messing with those whan I did my valve cover, just the throttle body,

Yes, it should be a very quick thing to do - I moved them last weekend to change the #6 plug. There are four bolts. Remove the two outside ones first as they are easy to get to (12MM IIRC). I used 'gearwrenches' but any spanner should do. The ground strap is attached to the PS bolt. Then remove the two inside ones. Again, a normal wrench should do it. If you're lazy (like me) I managed to get the gear head of the 'gearwrench' on the inside bolts and off they came - 1 min job.

What problem are you having?

Cheers, Hugh

Removing the bolts was easy, but this didn't allow me to move them out of the way of the rear DS bolt on the valve cover. I found that actually disconnecting the heater valve (the main obstruction) is very difficult. The section of hose with pinch clamps appears to be the best way to go about disconnecting it, but I couldn't get a grip on the clamp or the hose to pull it off. I didn't want to mess with the cotter pin clamps. I struggled with this for what seemed like a long time before I realized that my long, spark plug socket extension could get to the bolt without fully removing the heater valve and hoses.

Raven, how did you get to the bolt?

I remember it was hard to get onto, I do not remember exactly what I used, but I think I went below the heater valve. ratchet and a short extension?

would a crowfoot affair give you the needed clearance?
