Dealer says that there is no way to disable the tilt-away steering wheel on my 16 LC. In every Lexus I had the dealer could program it without any problem. Anyone was able to do it or know how to get it done?

Interested.

The dealer disabled it in my Hundy. Sure wish he could do same with my 2Hundy.

Curious... What makes you want to disable it?

Here's why I want mine disabled: the constant cycling of those motors (I think there's one each for tilt & telescope) is not necessary and wears them out. I don't use the feature often, and it'd be nice to preserve it.

There's a thread on this over in the 100 section. Guy had to change one of the motors. Difficult job.

My preference would be to disable the auto feature.

Funny - I think its totally unnecessary as well. What I really hate is when you want to shut off the engine but continue listening to the radio - you hit the start/stop button and the steering wheel starts going through its cycle only to have to go through it again when I hit the button for the accessory position!
I know....first world problems.....

Maybe stop by the same Lexus dealer and ask w it's done on the LX. I'm wondering if perhaps the Toyota dealer just doesn't know it can be done...or how....and it might be the same procedure in both... ?

If you leave it in gear and then shut off the engine, it stays in accessory mode.

Huh - good to know....
What about Neutral? Ah heck, I'll just try it!

If I kill the engine in gear...my truck beeps at me and won't let me lock.

I'll check it out tonight. Maybe I keep my foot on the brake? Not sure, but it's the same thing I do in the 4Runner and Camry so that I can keep the radio on.

+1 I had an issue with those motors on LS430. I am skinny enough that don't need the steering wheel to retract.

It is a rather funny feature anyway. I remember only 1 gentleman who used to actually manually raise his steering wheel every time he got in and out of the car. He was a generously proportioned older guy and the car was a baby blue early 80's Ford LTD. I do remember thinking it was pretty slick that he could do that.....but I have never found it necessary. Even my wife (when she was pregnant) never moved the steering wheel to get in and out of her car!

for me it's more the length of one's legs than the belly per say that this helps with, just my 2cents:)

I'm 6'1" 195lbs, gym six days a week (so not tubby) and I did the manual steering wheel tilt in my 3rd gen 4Runner. It just made getting in and out of the thing much easier. It just became a habit after a while.
yep, I'm 6'4 240 and for me sliding in without banging the S outta me knees at 5am is nice, I know first world problems:)

Well heck... My turn... :) I'm 6'3", 245...and I love that it gets outa me way... ;) But...I'm all for customized settings. If there's a way to set it to your preferred method...I hope you can do that.
