I'm looking to disable my rain sensing wipers on my '07 GX470 and go back to "normal" intermittent wipers when I move the arm down one position from the off position. Reading through other posts it sounds like in-theory I can unplug the sensor somehow from behind the rear view mirror and upon doing so the ECU will automatically switch from rain sensing to intermittent with speed controlled by rotating the dial that would have otherwise controlled the rain sensor sensitivity.
Questions:
1. Has anyone successfully done this with their GX?
2. How do you actually disconnect the sensor?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer!

This was one of the first things I did when I got my GX. The method is exactly as you read, pull the cover from behind the rear view mirror and disconnect the wire from the sensor unit. It’s kind of a bugger to disconnect.

Best free mod I’ve done, and totally reversible.

Excellent. Thanks so much for the quick reply and instruction!

You can disable with Techstream on my 05.

This is very interesting, I had no idea this could be done. I have only used TS to lower the door lock tone. I’ll play around with it in next few days and see if I can do it. 2006 btw.

Why do you not like the position for rain sensing? It seems easy enough to go from off to intermittent, you just pass the first click, its the same motion isnt it?

Though i do find that if i forget to turn it off from rain sensing that my wipers randomly will drag across a dry windshield, which im sure lowers the life of the wipers.

The rain sensing technology does not work well. I'd rather control when the wipers operate (even intermittently) vs letting the sensor decide.

OK, that seems fair enough! Mine seems to work adequately though.
Yea, a lot of people say that theirs works well and they like the sensing technology. Unfortunately, mine tends to have a mind of its own and typically doesn't work when I wish it would. Likely an issue with the gel pad but I'd rather just disconnect and gain better control.

TS will do it on a 2006 and don't see why it would be different on a 2007.

Good to know. I don’t own a TS. Do you just use one of the aftermarket kits that come with the software and OBD2 diagnostic cable that plugs into a laptop that you can buy on EBay for $20?

Looks at this thread. I put it on a Mac, just had to get the updated VM software.

It is as easy as the guy describes.

Cable is critical to success.

Sweet. Thanks bud.

I love my rain sensing wipers. I drove through a few mud puddles, and the wipers cleared the windshield before I could even react to reach the wiper lever.
