Hey all, i want to make sure i dont have the issue with the secondary air intake and id like to just disable it while i wait for the "opportunity"(starter) to access it to correct the defect. Are there plug-and-stop-playing wire harnesses out there that work withoit throwing codes?? Any revommendations?

Have you looked at the Hewitt SAIS bypass kit?
I’ve had it on my ‘05 for 4 years and 40,000 miles. Works great.

I am reading the ideal preventative maintainence is to remove the foam filter and replace it with an external filter. Is this right? Mine isnt broken i just dont want it to become broken. 09 gx470

My understanding is that the foam filter degrades over time and will eventually break apart and block valves and clog the fan that sounds like a little vacuum cleaner on cold start up.
There is no external filter option on the gx470, just on the later generation gx460.
I would definitely install a SAIS bypass kit as "preventative" maintenance while the system is functioning, then you can *probably* skip the installation of the block off plates. Another benefit is that you can purchase a *cheap kit* from Slyfox or Firewater Marine rather than a more expensive kit from Hewitt Tech.

What are the block off plates for? Would that only ne necessary if some valve was already stuck open?
Exactly. The block off plates can be a hassle if your vehicle is rusty underneath, but I did mine right after I got my exhaust manifolds replaced. The 2 bolts on each side were easily loosened so it was quick to slip in the block off plates and then tighten. If you installing SAIS bypass as preventative maintenance and skipping block off plates, you eliminate the one potentially complicated step involving seized rusty bolts.

Bought the fire water marine 4.7 sais bypass cable and plates for $75 shipped.

They say it works by activating when you use the starter (you run a trigger wire to the starter relay) so it should stop the pump from ever trying to engage again. As my sais valves are currently working correctly and closed(no codes at least), I *should* be able to get away with not installing the plates. Fingers crossed.

Will post install and results. Thanks for the guidance.

Very fast shipping from Fire Water Marine. Package showed up this morning. Will install this weekend and post some pics, looks easy enough. Wrapping the lead wire around the leg of the starter relay looks like the trickiest part. Fortunately I do not need to install the block off plates as I am installing this kit preventatively.

You can also probably skip the wiring to the starter relay if you just remember to start right after inserting key. If you insert key but don't start the engine within 10sec (as I recall?) , turn off and then restart. I believe Hewitt Tech website discusses this point in some detail

Thanks thats good to know. My car has an aftermarket remote start kit so im going to make sure I install the starter relay control wire to avoid anything weird happening when the car is started and the key isnt in the car.
