Damn, that is one sweet rig! Nice work.
Thank you, I envisioned this truck about 2.5 years ago when I bought it and have been working on that vision ever since.

The timing should make a world of difference. The only major difference in our motors will be the pistons I am running, Mahle 286210. Another thing I didn't mention, I am going to be putting in overdrive gears, which will move all my high range gears up by 10%, this will further improve mileage on the highway.

What are the overdrive gear you are doing? Got me intrested.

Other than the few hiccups it seems everything went okay. Mileage is great. I got a whopping 15.1 on my last fill up. The wife drove it while I was out of town so I'll blame her. I'm waiting for @Wheelingnoob to do a timing write up so I can advance mine a bit as well. Timing scares me.

Yeah I need to get on that lol. I'm nervous too to be honest.

Terrain Tamer 10% increase in high range, coupled with a set of marlin 3.12 low range gears.

They offer them for our t cases? I had no idea, very intrested in that. Already have the marlin low range it's crazy with thecummins and 1st gear.

Yes they do. Onur or Georg are both TT vendors. I didn't want to regear both different back to 4.10 from 4.56, this overdrive is a much better option.

I didn't gain any mileage when I swapped high gears but it made highway cruising much better. It also gave me use of first gear. Prior I started in 2nd.

That would be the same as going from 4.10 to 3.73, not a bad deal. Much cheaper than re-gearing 2 axles.
Yes it will be cheaper, and less time consuming. There are a few running around already that Georg has put together.

With the mileage I am getting, I don't mind if it doesn't improve anymore, I just want to be able to use 1st and reduce RPM, right now I am running at 2600 rpm to do 85mph. The motor will do that all day long, but I would rather be down closer to 2100. The only time I use 1st is crawling in Low range down very steep hills.

Running up the twister trail at Anthracite, my 80 is the last one through the squeeze.

That video truly shows just how big an 80 is

Yes, I had fun negotiating all the tight trails with trees everywhere. The 40's were able to cruise through with a lot more room to spare. One of my dogs insisted on jumping on my lap which didn't make it any easier. I did manage to get out without any additional character though.

And here is the exact moment that my front end started popping. You can hear it crack three times coming down this hill.

Because one diesel cruiser is never enough, I have picked up another one. A clean 1982 BJ42 Canadian spec. I am presently driving it cross country from Steamboat Springs, CO back to Chester, NJ.

For those that want to follow, here is the thread where I am documenting the trip.

Unbelievable build. Where do you find the time?
Thank you.

I have a very patient wife and I don't watch much television.
