Just came across these
It looked like proper manufacturing and somewhat plug and play
Anybody tried ?
I am thinking upgrading from my current HIR in my 98 LC

Ok so no feedback on IH8MUD
Will try to get some review before ordering. I saw reference to some flickering on start up

Bump

Anyone tried these?

Still no one has tried these??

I have them on my 99 LC. Light pattern is good and bright. Light cut-off is correct, as long as you aim/adjust afterwards, you won't blind oncoming drivers. There's definitely an improvement in nighttime visibility compared to stock halogens. However, I don't know how they compare to other LED options for the LC. I haven't tried any other LEDs.

Install is a little fiddly. The SL1 bulbs have a small set screw at the base of the bulb. In order to get the SL1 bulbs aligned correctly so you have the correct light cut-off, you have the loosen the set screw and rotate the locking tabs. When you install the bulb, you turn the bulb to tighten the locking tabs. If the light doesn't line up, take the bulb back out, remove the set screw, rotate the tabs again and then reinstall.

How do you think they look relative to a HID / Projector setup? (if not necessarily on a LC, perhaps compared to other vehicles with factory HIDs). I was planning on doing the Morimoto Mini projector retrofit but if the LED is comparable in light output this is much easier to manage.

I have these in my 06 cruiser. I'm very happy with them, when I bought it the previous owner had swapped in some cheap generic HIDs in both hi and low beams. These are just as bright but I was mostly drawn to them since they are a warmer white vs the cool blue you get with every other LED. They are probably not as good as a quality HID projector retrofit but I didnt want to put that much effort into headlights so I'm happy with these lol.

I actually had no idea about the set screw/alignment procedure archerwolf mentioned. I just screwed mine right in but they seem to be aimed/adjusted right for me. I can see plenty far down the road and dont ever get flashed by oncoming cars like I used to with my wrangler with LED headlights.

My only complaint with these is that the fans are quite loud so when you cut the truck off and the headlights are still on you hear them. Really really small thing to complain about and would not stop me from buying again or recommending to someone else.

I think they are comparable to a factory HID headlight on a 2000s car. The morimoto retrofit is almost definitely better, but more expensive and more work.

For me though, the SL1s were a good buy. I forgot to mention I also got a pair of SL1 bulbs for the factory fog light housings. I've been pretty happy with nighttime freeway driving with the SL1s.

Thanks for the info! Any chance you can take a beam shot so we can see how the low beams look? Looks like I’m going to do this rather than projectors.

Does anybody know of a similar option for LX?

I think I heard these will work for our high beams but the DRLs will no longer work.

For my low beams I installed HID bulbs and the morimoto bi-xenon projectors, I think that is the brightest option for us.

Agree with this... installed them about two months ago in my 98 LC.
Takes a minute to figure out alignment and whatnot to get the bulb aimed properly in the housing (has a collar held by a small set screw) and then removal of their red o-ring as it was too large for my housing, luckily the one on the old bulbs worked just fine.

Other than that, was pretty straight forward and easy. I have heard people complain that the fans are loud but honestly I can barely hear them when the lights are on and the truck is off with the hood open. Did a little write-up when I installed them in Alita, can be found in her build thread (in my sig). Will definitely be getting the high-beams when holidays come around (coupon codes).

But not necessarily plug n play like these are.

Here is a link to Alita's beam pattern (bottom of the page):

Yes, quite far from plug and play. If I remember correctly it took me an entire day of work. Not including a few days of building up the courage to remove my headlights and bake them in the oven.

Prior to installing the HID projectors I had installed HID bulbs in the stock LX projectors. The brightness was pretty good but the beam pattern was poor (the foreground was much too bright). But now with the bi-xenon projectors it’s like I’m driving a 2020 model. And since they are bi-xenon I get the HIDs combining with my HIRs for high beams. I can’t imagine ever needing a light bar. All in all I’d say it’s the best thing I’ve done to my car, those original headlights were awful!

Right... there is going to be no substitute for going with something like this where you do a full blown retro fit of the housing and everything. I had originally planned to go that route at some point in the future, but I have been impressed with the SL1s thus far and really don't see a need to go that extra step.

Now the caveat to that is, the SL1s are $130ish (depending on sales and whatnot) in the first place. That is about 1/2 the price of everything needed for the full retrofit if I remember correctly. So if you have the ability and time for the truck to be down while you bake the lenses OR you get spares to do it in, then it is kinda a no brainer. So it all depends on what your expectations are.
