Does anyone else have issues with these door sill plates denting easily? Both our GX and LX have dents and dings in them, seems like they could have made them out of a thicker gauge metal.

It's only surface rust but it blows my mind how easily these Toyota's/Lexus' can rust in just one year. I religiously wash/rinse mine off weekly and after every off-road excursion.

Nope. No issues, but again I don't have or wear any hard soled shoes and my wife rarely wares high heels.
As far as rust, I am only about 100 yards from the Pacific, but I haven't looked under in a while to see if there is any surface rust.
When I get a chance, I'll take a look.

Yea the misses wears high heels to work but she has been working from home since March so who knows. It sucks that they can't hold up to a 110lb woman in heels entering the vehicle lol.

While I agree that Toyota trucks rust way too easily, knowing what you know, convert it, paint it and coat the undercarriage in a product like fluid film. It should easily last 3+ years down there before another application is needed.

They use pretty thin frame coat. Just remove that surface rust, rattle can the area and topcoat with a rust protectant like mentioned above.

You don’t want to be one of those people shaking their finger at Toyota in 10 years when your frame is all rusted. I love my Toyota’s but I also coat them. Just treat it like a maintenance item. The other cast stuff under there, like the diff, is just going to surface rust, more of a cosmetic thing.

Yea I've already hit it all with a wire brush and taken care of it. It just baffles me how quickly they do rust is all and every other Toyota and Lexus product I've owned does the same.

Everyone in the rust belt is chuckling at what you call rust... ;-)

Is that the same as laughing at us in So. Cal when we're pulling out our fleece, Pendleton's, scarves and layering up our clothes when the temperature dips to 60°??

That is a surprising amount of rust for Tejas, unless you live right on the Gulf.

ive seen silverados and f150s on the dealer lot with rust on the chassis

Hence why I don't buy vehicles from that part of the country lol.

I've had a lot of Ford's over the years and none of them have ever looked like any of the Toyota/Lexus vehicles I have owned. Toyota and rust and are in a class of their own lol.

Just coated mine with Cor-ban 35.

This comes from the aviation industry. Brushed on the first coat then sprayed on the second coat to get areas that I couldn’t reach with a brush. Wished I had done this when I first bought it. Had to hand clean the frame and components prior to application. If you go with this preventative be sure to wear a Tyvek suite.

Can I buy this goodness online myself or do I need to get my aviation mechanic buddy to order it?

Lol, you can buy it on line. For around 60 bucks in (chemicals) Tyvek suite and cheap brushes it’s an inexpensive endeavor. Should last a couple years and need a reapplication.
