Dimming side-view mirrors........Yukons do this, what about 80's??

Ok, I do a good bit of night driving in populated areas and the bright headlights in the side-view mirrors are driving me nuts. This is not a new problem for me, but I couldn't find any solution in my Heep. Hopefully there will be one in the 80. My dad's side-view mirrors on his Yukon look normal during the day, but at night they get a greenish tint to them that really dims the brightness down while still allowing adequate vision of the road behind. Was this ever an option on the Cruisers, maybe in the later models? Any help/tips would be appreciated. I briefly considered window tint, but realized that will adversly affect daytime vision.

My wife's 99 4Runner Ltd has auto-dimming mirrors with a compass built into the interior mirror. This wasn't even an option on my 99 Cruiser.
The key question is whether the wiring harness has the necessary leads for you to install aftermarket mirrors. Somebody with all of the books in the 94 FSM (the 99 has three volumes) will have to answer that question for you.

Hmm, I have the FSM with me, but the EWD is still in the mail. I'll have to look at it at lunch...

Just mount some high powered driving lights facing backwards and those annoying headlights will disappear!

I thinks dimming mirrors were cool, not anymore. They changed the rear view mirror in my 80 with an auto dimmer, looks stock but works like crap. It dims fine until the car is close and the lights are really bright, then for some reason it un-tints....drives me nuts. I just want my factory flip mirror back, and for the sides, just hit the switch and move them out till the light isn't in your eyes.

I'm not sure you'll find a mirror to fit your housing. It would have to be mounted on your existing adjustable mount and fit in the housing. Electrochromic mirrors can't be sanded to size like regular mirror glass. We have samples all around the shop where we build machines to make and test them, none I could make fit. I have light-blue tinted mirrors on my Audi, I like them.

Tinted side windows would do the samething, plus they keep the car cooler on hot days. I had the windows tinted in my tacoma, and now I am about to go nuts not having the front side windows tinted in the LC. Its near the top of my to do list.
