I'm looking at possibly purchasing another LX470.

After hours of searching with an emphasis on service records and mileage, I'm stuck between...

An '04 with less than 60K, one owner who's a service writer at a Lexus dealer...loaded with every option, including night vision, but no trailer hitch (not a deal-breaker to me as :princess: has a Dodge with Cummins she uses to tow horses) for ~$25K...

...or an '07 with less than 80K for ~$30K. No night vision, as I'd normally expect.

Both show good maintenance on the "My Lexus" site, and receipts for services not done at a dealer. Color is identical between the two.

Difference between the 2 appears to be more hp on the '07. Other differences per the Slee website are no big deals to me.

Opinions would be appreciated.

Thx.

Steve

If it were me, I'd probably go for the '07 because 3 years newer and the bump in hp.

Unrelated, as someone who spent a year working in a service department, the owner of the '04 must be a fantastic service writer to swing a new LX. :)

I don't think you can go wrong. Negotiate with both. :D I'd probably try hardest to get the '07 for $25k using the '04 with 1/4 less miles as a price point. Then again I'd be ridiculously tempted if the '04 got close to $20k.

I guess I wasn't much help after all that LOL. :hmm:

WTH is night vision?

Jason, it's a FLIR (Forward Looking Infra-Red) system, similar to those used in military aircraft. Google "night vision" in the search box on this forum. It's a very rare accessory...I have friends of the family who've owned an indy Toyota shop for ~20 years and they've never seen one in the shop...nor has my local Lexus dealer here in Idaho.

tabraha, price is VERY firm on both trucks...I've asked. :bang: I'm almost down to flipping a coin.

agingfleet, that's the way I'm leaning, toward the extra hp. Car owned by the Lexus service writer was purchased for him by parents for a gift.

Both choices have the running boards intact...zero evidence of ever being driven off-road.

I appreciate the responses.

Thank you.

Don't tell me they are both white.

Your description is exactly like what I've got my eye on, '07 with 76k miles, listed for 29.9. I've got a few things to work out on my end still (unloading my other vehicle) but the guy has pulled the ad and says he'll wait for me. I'll be sad (but understand) if he has listed it elsewhere and it sells. Its in SLC.

nnnnnate...I'd prefer for obvious reasons not to mention the location here...but both vehicles are nowhere near SLC. It appears to me you've got an extremely trusting and ethical seller...congrats.

I'd like to keep my current '01 LX as transportation to whichever LX I choose...guys I mentioned in the OP will buy it for a more than fair price and resell it through their shop.

And both vehicles are definitely white...I've also seen a few good deals in the WA state area but they're all black. I've got issues with a black LX as I farm and live in a farming area in ID...lots of dust when you're doing agricultural stuff. It took about 2 weeks for :princess: to sell her black Acura Legend when we moved from DFW up here.

Totally understand on the location thing. The one I've been looking at was listed locally but the seller only got one or two calls before I came by a few weeks later. After checking it out and talking to the wife about it I got back ahold of him and let him know I was serious and intended to purchase it assuming we could agree on a price. Not even an hour later on the way home my tranny started to grind going into 5th. Its under warranty and the parts finally came in so it'll hopefully be fixed in the next couple days and I'll be able to sell it quickly. (Not a Toyota) I've kept him in the loop about where I'm at on it and he's been pretty darn understanding so far. Just hope I can make the transition sooner rather than later.

My current rig is black...never again.

I say go with the 07. No finicky pin 60 issues to worry about on the MFD. Plus, I've always been a little hesitant of really really low miles on older vehicles. An 04 means he was driving 6k a year avg. Or it possibly means he drove it daily for first few years then it sat for a few years with little or no use. I'd feel more comfortable with a truck that was driven daily and was racking up 10k miles a year or so.

2007

I'd go for the 2007. VVTi motor with more HP, leather is a few years ahead of wearing out as well as speakers.

Unless money is no object, I'd go with the '04 and put $5000 worth of fun stuff on it for the same money as the '07.

As both have the post 2003 5sp transmission, I too would most likely go with the 2004 with less miles. Moreover, it is truly a positive that the 2004 does not have a trailer hitch as it usually portends an easier duty cycle. At least I felt that way upon seeing that my LX was not equipped with a hitch...

Thx for all your answers. It's still flip-a-coin time.

OT, I'm amazed at the price on an '07 shop manual just a little ...obviously worth it in the long run as I do my own wrenching. Local dealer shop time here approaches $100/hour.

I'd for the 04' ...... for 30k you're awfully close to getting into a 200 if you find the right rig.... I almost snagged an 08' with 98k locally for 32k but finally decided that I'd rather start in the high teens and build it.... and ten got lucky with the Sc'ed rig....still wish I had a 5spd....

Thanks for the suggestion...I'll check out 200 series pricing...but eyeballing one it would appear to be higher than my current LX, which barely fits through my garage door.
