Toyota gears in the 80's are kinda hit or miss even when you read the engine plates. I know, mine said 4.10 but had 3.90, common problem. Anyway, 86-90 4runners with autos had 4.30 gears, no matter 3vz or 22r, it had only to do with tire size. The 5 speed tranys came with 4.10 gears again a few got 3.90 and the wrong codes. Now on newer (92-95) models the axle codes on the door plates are correct and there are alot more gear ratios used that ARE dependant on engine size, transmission type and tires...I can go on and on and tell you just about every combination. Just read the axle codes, if you don't have a axle list just post the code ie. G294 and I can cross it to my list.

Only 92-95 3vz trucks/4runners 5 speeds 31" tires came with 4.56, autos had 4.88.
