The 80 housing shows no cross over. It is only used on the 80 and 105 chassis.

44111-60040 Shaft X-ref ' s to a 60 series 1980 to1989
So this is where I'd start if looking to exchange, rebuild or McGiver!
Seals look like they are widely available and interchangeable between a Corolla,Hilux(4Runner) to a HDJ101

The housing does as well.

It looks like you need to find a box from a 60 a 62.

LJ70, 60 series and 80 series all have forward facing pitman arms, leaf sprung 70 series have rear facing pitman arm, I've yet to find a cruiser P/S box that has a different steering shaft or pitman arm spline so you can swap pitman arms and steering shafts between steering boxes if your going to try and use an 80 series box, have to check for shaft wear in the steering box if your going to rebuild your box they are all getting a bit old and worn now and sometimes new seals work and sometimes they don't, still worth a crack if you can access replacement seals easily

thanks a lot guys, great info. I think I'm gonna try the LX450 box since it's close to home, sounds like a pitman and steering shaft swap might do the trick, we'll see.
ShesMad, I'll PM you if things don't work out.
thnx agn guys

I guess you missed the part where I said the 70 and 80 housings are not the same?

I don't think that dog will hunt. I hope I am wrong.
