Planning to import a diesel 70 series this year and was wondering if there is anyone in the area that has experience working on Toyota diesels? Perhaps from other club members that have done imports?

Thanks. If anyone mentioned can recommend a mechanic I'd appreciate it!
I think your best bet might be to find the best toyota shop, and ask if they work on diesels.

There are a few dedicated Land Cruiser shops "around" but nothing in the 919 IIRC.
OTRAMM is in Northern VA

I called OTRAMM in Northern VA and was told they don't do diesel work. Anything else 80 related was fine, just nothing diesel engine specific. I called and emailed Trollhole in Simsonville, SC because he is highly recommended. I was able to speak to one of the guys on the phone who said he would talk to the owner and for me to send an email with what I wanted done (BEB work as preventive maintenance). Haven't heard back with repeated tries since November so he must be plenty busy.
@Ghostrider I and I have spoken on the phone and he gave me some recommendation in Charlotte, NC and Thomasville, Ga. He would be a good guy to reach out too for specifics.
Nothing in the 919 area code and everyone I have talked to, including the Toyota dealerships, have steered me to Trollhole.
I have been ordering and stockpiling parts and just got a new IP in from Canada because my 29 year old pump is starting to leak. Once I get a few more parts in, I plan to change out the pump, injectors, glow plugs, hard lines and such and delete the ACSD.
There are lots of how to tips on the Diesel forum that have been helpful so far, not to mention a few individuals in this club that have helped a fledgling mechanic with basic tools and no garage space get work done.
PM me if you want to talk more. Got to get the diesel guys in the area talking so we can spread the wealth of knowledge.

Good info, thanks. My usual Toyota shops have told me they don't do diesels either. I'm hoping to have the truck sometime this summer so I'm sure I will be reaching out in the future!
While lots of regular diesel shops that work on domestic and German passenger vehicles may not want to touch a yota, larger industrial ones may as most will work on Hinos. They would also be the ones to turn to for an injection pump rebuild.

Agreed. I have been studying the diesel forum and have researched the difficulties associated with rebuilding an IP and seen posts for recommendations on folks who do rebuilds. I reached out to a shop in Canada because they were recommended on the forum. Difficult to get folks to respond, but this shop was super helpful and we will see how good the rebuild is once I get it hooked up. Looks PRETTY though and can't wait to get it on.
I have every confidence that Marshall is as great as everyone has said as I have been getting recommendations form everyone I have spoken to for my diesel. Just can't get to him because he is likely super busy. Wasn't meant to be a slight on his character or workmanship.

I got mine service at h&h. Some people here love him some hate him. He has done what i ask with no hesitation. I work a lot on my stuff too. @forrest5000 had marshall rebuild his engine and he was happy with the outcome. There also a lot of fork lift and npr mechanics that work on this kind of engines.
If you need an injection pump rebuild and can't fond anyone local reach out to torfab. I'd wager he has worked on more yota diesels than most yota specialists in the US by a long shot. They don't rebuild in house but they do use a local shop for it.

x2 for Morgan. I asked him about a BJ40 and he said he would take a look. He repaired the front and rear ARB lockers on my 100 and did great work. I have also known him for a while since the 36 Hour of Uwharrie Adventure races. Great guy. DM me and I will give you his number. Not sure he wants me to post it. He drives a jeep so be sure to give him a hard time about that!
depends on how complicated. ive sent my injectors away to get refreshed as i did with my injection pump. I had odd iron down in GA install the turbo. I dont have the tools to get deep into an engine or rebuild a tranny, id probably reach out to cruiser brothers for a new /refurb one and put it back in. Almost everything else is doable by you. Axle refresh, brakes, etc etc, suspension. Just finished with a terrain tamer brake kit and should have new rad installed with new fan/vc before relic run hopefully. anyone familiar with 60 series would be good as they run really similar suspension till 1999 models. engines and transmissions would be the only thing id remove and send off to have delt with or drive. Plan on replacing all rubber (hoses, brake lines, fuel lines going to filter etc etc, can help with what i replaced when we imported 1990 aussie spec. We can do this!
I also have a Diesel 70 series. I'm located just south of Rock Hill in Edgemoor, SC. I'm a mechanic (in training) at Burns Ford in Lancaster and hope to be able to diesel work in the near future. We have two diesel techs at Burns that are quite good, but they're mostly working on the Ford Power Strokes.
I'm always up for lending a hand, and have all of the FSMs for the 70 series if you need to look something up.
