Does anyone know a diesel injection specialist in the greater NYC area who could test my injectors and potentially rebuild them if needed?

Injectors that are 20+ years old won’t be tested by any reputable injection shop.

They will either rebuild them or tell you to replace them.

Well then I need a shop recommendation for someone to rebuild them. Hopefully with denso parts.

Why is that? And if they rebuild them, how will they flow match them?

20 years without any rebuilds on injectors?

I’d say they are due.

I know the injection shops I deal with would say the same thing.

You can take anything into an Australian shop and they will bench test them. But you are wasting their time and they will charge you full labour price. But if you are getting them rebuilt, they pre test them to understand whats wrong with them. They told me mine had weak springs. Injectors can be 20 years old but still be in good order if they havent done the klms.

My truck has 229000 kms, I have no idea what was done on it in japan. It was very well maintained but the injectors could well be original. I am fully willing to have them rebuilt, I just need a shop that can do it, and preferably nearby. I can't remove them and send them away, I park on the street in the city. There are a couple places in NZ and Oz that will send new ones with a core charge, but I would rather have mine rebuilt with Denso parts if possible.

The FIRST thing the local shop does is to perform a spray / pressure TEST.

I just went through the research to get mine rebuilt, but by the time I priced out the parts (denso), and added the rebuild charges from the shop - it made more sense for me to just buy the factory injectors new. I was able to purchase them at under $100/injector cdn, just over $100 with the shipping. You may want to investigate that angle, who knows. Your injectors are likely different or I would just give you the part number for the HZ injectors. I picked mine up from OZ Automotive...

Just a thought! Best of luck whichever way you go... :)
