I used the same mounting scheme as the original diesel badge, jb welded a nut to the back and bent up a piece of metal to provide tension on the badge to the grill while also using the 3m tape on the front

I have a 97' HZJ73. It has the chrome grill without the diesel badge. I want to paint the chrome black (leave the "toyota" chrome and put one of these badges on? Can I drill holes and make it fit? If so, who do I contact to get the "diesel" badge?

Our 70 Series "Diesel" grille badge does not require any holes to be drilled into the grille. It will match the contour of the grille and sit totally flush. It comes with 3M badge adhesive. Here's links to our different platforms we sell them on:

Those look awesome. I was about to buy one but it looks like the grill on my zx trim hzj73 has a different contour and the badge wouldn't fit. Can anyone confirm or deny? Pics attached

That is a rather flat surface unlike the other 70 series grille which has very curved grille bars. It appears that all you need is our diesel badge without the backside adapter plate. Our diesel grille badge can mount to any flat surface is the adapter plate is removed. We can just ship it as two separate pieces. With the adapter plate removed, the badge becomes a 3D bumper sticker that can be mounted to any flat surface on the vehicle. Hopefully that makes sense.

I have the "flatter", newer style grill also and been looking at this badge for awhile. The flat grill surface is on a very slight angle. I didn't know removing the badge from the adapter plate was possible or I would have already bought one. When ordering, how does one request to have the badge and adapter shipped as separate pieces?

I just updated the listings to give an option for the grille badge OR the flat fender badge. You will want the flat fender badge which will NOT come with the backing plate and allow you to install it on any flat surface. For the two of you who ordered before I made this change; I will credit the $3 back to you for the cost of the backing plate which you don't need.
