Thanks guys, for all of the info on removing a rounded off differential fill plug. I ended up dropping the spare tire, removing the rear anti-sway bar, and disconnecting the pass. side parking brake cable to make room to do some serious work if necessary.
Someone had suggested grinding away most of the metal on the head and at first thought I rejected the idea... as I just couldn't see how that would help matters. Then it dawned on "big dummy" that he might have meant from (two sides)....leaving a center section or "wing" to work with. You have to be careful... and it takes a little time but it relieved the stress on the plug enough that I removed it with a pair of pliers!
The plug did not have a metal gasket under it and it had been tightened up right against the housing. I swear I heard the diff. go Wheeeeew! when that plug came out.
Thanks again!
