I just purchased a 96' Landcruiser (no lockers) with only 77k in Moonglow Pearl. After reading several posts now I am thinking I paid too much. I live in the pacific northwest where it seems Landcruisers go for so much more than other areas. I paid 17k which I know is high, but I love the exterior color and interior color (grey) and it was in great shape. Single owner, clean carfax, but maybe I should have waited till summer to get a better price. Please take it easy on the comments, I'm new to the forum. BTW...I already removed the running boards and got my front mud flaps!!

never ask if you paid too much. its done. and if your happy thats all that matters. now enjoy the info you can get here and welcome to the forum.!

i couldn't have said it any better! :)

Ditto. A clean one owner 9 year old car is a rarity as most would have been through an original owner that cared well for it and at least another one that likely did not. Nice colors, by the way. Where in the PNW do you live - more than a few of us here.

ditto^2, don't worry about it. I paid too much too and love it. It's pretty easy to burn through $2K in parts/stress on a truck that's had a questionable life. Compared to all the mods to be done, it's not a big deal. Too bad no lockers but oh well.

PACNW96- you'll find a few members on here who will say how you should have waited it out because there are "tons" of cheap, perfect 80s out there, but don't listen to 'em because, as we know, that is not the case! It is *HARD* to find a clean, low mileage, well-maintained 80. I know- I spent over 6 months searching across the nation and calling dealers in 40+ states before I found mine. Congrats on the purchase! Please post some pics of your new ride!

That's about right for the price. You could have paid less but it might be in the midwest with more rust or had multiple owners with multiple problems. If the vehicle was a single owner then chances are they took care of their investment from day one.Welcome!

Russel, I can assure you that the price is ok. We see many of these so called cheap 80's that were only driven by a soccer mom at the shop. In 99% of the cases, they need a ton of work and don't turn out to be the cherries the owners thought they got. A 996 still has age against it, so hoses and alll rubber parts need to be inspected. The benifit ot the low miles is that none of the hard parts like birfields etc are likely to be worn. You would still have to do the maintenance, but the chances are you are only going to replace seals and gaskets.

Russell-

Congrats on the purchase. It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, you were willing. Enjoy it!

You've been lurking eh?

I paid too much too, but would do it again in a heartbeat! Ever since driving my first LC in the desert in the UAE, I have been in love. I think you would be hard pressed to find a better built, more reliable model of car anywhere in the world. I purchased mine with 80K on the clock and now have 113K. I have done only routine maintenence. This is the first car that I have ever owned that lasted beyond 100K. Welcome and good luck with your truck. I know you'll be pleased.

That is a typical price here in Arizona......... maybe even on the low side.

You didn't pay too much. You sound like you subscribe to the wob rule of personal finance and economics. Buy high, sell low.

Don't worry about it. I have a 72 FJ40 "rust free" rust bucket that doesn't run in my backyard that I paid way too much for. It happens.

I purchased a 97 fzj80 from florida(I am in VA) white with tan leather, no lockers w/110,000. the problem is the check engine light was on(p0401) or maybe not a problem but the truck was clean except the focker smoked( hours of cleaning the interior) paid $11,000 and felt damn good about it only because I would not have been able to pay $11,001 for it if you know what I mean. the very next day I found one w/ lockers lower miles for $9,000 damn it!. There always happens to be a better deal the next day after you buy somthing.

If anyone is looking for clean 80's look up this guy in Virginia (www.myersautoexchange.com) you will thank me. sorry no linky. This guy is very nice and will work with you.

No need for buyers remorse.

Sounds like you did O.K. for your area.

I purchased a '97 same color as yours, but had about 100 K. miles on it for 12,975 drive out, but this is Texas and we may have more of them to choose from.

Mine also was very clean and we have had no issues with it.

There are people that have bought them for less than mine and more than yours, so I wouldn't worry myself with that. The goal is to "get one", do the maintenance, and enjoy it.

Congratulations, and we look forward to seeing you here on the forum.

P.S. C-Dan will be your best source for parts IMO.
