This was posted on a small local group facebook page today that Im on. Supposedly It was at a location near me but I wasnt able to really look at it due to work, timing and not having a spare minute.

The auction is over but maybe it will be relisted like they sometimes are. I have thought about getting a 70 similar to this but I havent had the time to research and right now is probably not the best time with a future mrs. wanting things and other toyota projects.

I figured it would sell in the mid teens so I didnt bother. I would have paid 10-11 for this, I am over valuing them. If timing had been better and I had any free time o well. gotta focus on the 40.

Toyota: Land Cruiser 70 Series

the frame and underside look good but whos knows from pics, I would be curious of pre-paint job pics to see whats under but seller said they had the pre-work pics. The seats dont look like something toytota would do from the factory but I dont know anything on these vehicles. I dont even know if this is the desirable motor.

I wish I could have gotten time to visit it in person and look (talk myself into getting) I could have learned about the model
o
Does anyone know about this one or where it might be going.

That's a Portugese spec, VM equipped BJ73, evidenced by pics but also the 'TW0' VIN beginning.

Long story short, certain markets have trade restrictions that require a certain percentage of a vehicle be produced with an arranged free trade zone.

In this case, Toyota delivered white body shells, small portion of interior, on a rolling chassis, with transmission (F/H), transfer case, LSD rear differential, 4.56 geared drivetrains to a Spanish 'assembler' that completed.

Portions of the 12V harness were removed, modified, rewrapped with assemblers name. Several electrical components and motors are of Spanish descent.

Interior is of Spanish descent, as is all glass, rubbers, some light fixtures, miscellaneous things throughout the vehicle.

Painted in Spain and why the colors do not match any known Toyota codes.

The VM engine is a complete POS, BUT it's a 12V diesel, so receptive to 1HZ that, literally, can start and run without a single damn wire to it.

I would think it to be relatively rust free, even with the new frame paint, since it is an excellent climate for Toyotas that typically rust at the sight of water. Only places I've seen consistent rot issues are at the bottom of the cabrio pillar, but limited to sheet metal.

That's a damn good close price for a rust free rolling body/chassis. Very glad I've no time for eBay, or it might be the recipient of an HZ I have.

Swap the input shaft to HZ, mount 35s to counter the 4.56s (or pull and swap for 4.11s that are cheap) and it makes for a great running driving project truck, that brings no guilt for any departure from OE, since a kinda bastard stepchild to begin with.

Not a bad buy at all.

Gonna keep eye on eBay for when new buyer cracks one of the individual cylinder heads and wants to unload it!!
(Edited: or desires a consistent speed exceeding 50mph, with a tailwind, downhill.)

Thats some great info right there.

Have had a little time to acquire.

Other desirable qualities that seem inclusive on the Portugese spec:

Removable door tops front and rear.

Rear fold and tumble bench seat has two anchors, instead of the JDM single point.

As well, rear seats have shoulder belts, attached to the factory roll bar, which is also uncommon and not a bolt on affair into one that isn't equipped.

A great market to source from, if 1HZ swap is planned.

Not good if swap sounds saunting, because a Singer sewing machine is faster and more powerful than the VM engine that, literally, few useable parts exist on earth for.
