All,

Our trail in Uwharrie is in bad shape. We have at least 5 illegal spider trails , some that are going onto old trails we had decades ago that are not open but have been opened back up by these folks. I have posted photos over in our section on FB about what I have seen back in July. I was just out there yesterday on another workday and it was worse yet again. A new one has been started for a new hill climb.

Our trail needs our help badly . A bunch of supplies are already up there, they just need to be used in these areas. We will need some more posts but not rails. There are a few posts up there though.

Is Dicky Bell going to be the focus of a workday coming up?

Question .... Would steel cables be allowed as barriers or are they considered a bad idea for poor visibility? I ask because it seems install could be faster than rails and getting old winch cables donated (i have at least one) to the cause would cost very little $$.

The september workday overlaps with CCLR, so that's not going to work. In addition, the August workday was yesterday.

Is it OK to wait until Oct to address this or does it need to be addressed sooner?

I imagine that cable will be an uphill battle. Most large forest landowners have moved away from cable gates because of liability associated with ATVers hitting them at speed about neck high .... not a pretty picture ...

I'm in for October and will try roping in more of the Greensboro/triad faction.

Would incorporating a half day, Saturday morning, as part of Logan's run make some progress on our trail? I hate to read these reports from krzyabncanuck about our sponsored trail. While I want to X the creators of spider trails/abusers, we need to take care of our trail and only close riding spot in NC.

We talked about incorporating a workday into Logan's Run but decided against it.

Please keep in mind that during LR that Saturday we have a workday and we will be out there working on a trail that day. Unsure at this time which trails but I will let you know as soon as I know.

Why was a work day not incorporated?

It seems to me as a win-win situation: plenty of members and new people in attendance (many hands make light work). Show the forest service that as a club, even at our biggest event, we take care of what we use. You can still wheel plenty Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Just my 2cents.

Why was a work day not incorporated?

It was a decision made by the BOD, making sure we catered to people who traveled long distances to wheel, not to volunteer. Our logic is that people paid to be at CCLR to test their rigs and enjoy the group, not bust their butt all day digging holes. They can dig holes at their house, or at any one of the Uwharrie work days, without having to pay to do so.

Our Christmas Party and Meet and Greet events have integrated workdays now, not to mention they have for about two years now, and will remain the only two events with integrated workdays for 2015. We can discuss modifying the CCLR schedule to incorporate a workday for the 2016 event.

As always, anytime I'm in Uwharrie, I stop and pick up trash whenever I see it. Most of the club does that. Picking up trash is not, in my mind, a workday, but a responsibility that we have, as offroaders, at any park we ever travel to, not just Uwharrie.

If you'd like to discuss further Quinton, feel free to give me a call or shoot me an email. If you don't have either, then send me a PM with your cell and I'll give you a call.

Thanks bud

If the event overlaps a workday, any one of us can choose to participate if we so desire.

I agree with you on being a responsibility that we have......but my understanding from our last trip, Ranger Terry asked us to log names, trails, and how many bags we picked up. This gets put under volunteer hours, which helps the park service and credit hours for ONSC. These volunteer hours help keep the trails open! And it's not all about construction.

Correct me if I'm wrong Eric.

If as a group, since we have a hard time getting started anyway, we met at Hunt Camp, registered and those that want to dig holes and move fences, do so. And those that want to pick up trash, like me, do so, then win win. And let's be honest, the roads in to the trails are trashy, the trails are littered with Bud Light cans, and the campsites can be filthy! I'm probably exaggerating but I'm pissed every time I go crawl in URE because of litter.

Rant over
