Every time we get a good rain, I get vertical streaks of "dirt" running down the truck on all sides. If I don't wash or quick detail the car within a day of the rain, those "dirt streaks" really adhere to the paint to the point I have to use an ispropyl/water solution or paint cleaner to remove them. That removes the car wax and I have to rewax it shortly after. This is obviously not very efficient.

All I can think is that its some kind of run-off from the black rubber seals around the windows, etc. Any ideas? And if that's what it is, any tricks to prevent it. Thanks.

Man you have too much time on your hands. want to trades lives? Seriously I guess we all have our fetishes. Mine is takeing care of the hard stuff(underneath, engine, drivetrain, etc). I guess that comes with owning white. robbie

ACF:

What you can do if you have the time and don't mind doing a bit of work is:

- Wash the truck with a nasty soap (like dishsoap) to strip off old wax etc
- Take the time to 'clay bar' the truck - takes off everything - all those little specs of dirt (only nead to do this 1-2x per year)
- Apply some of the 'new style' waxes/finishes
- Then a quick hose down is all you need to keep it clean

I use Zeano (Sp?) Brothers stuff and seems to work well, but a bit expensive - then again I only do this every 4 months or so.

Thanks, but already have done this. The problem is the recurring problem every time it rains. Perhaps it is the price I pay for having a white truck b/c I can see it not being noticed by owners of dark colored trucks.

robbie - since this is the wife's daily commuter and not an offroad vehicle (yet) I gotta keep her looking nice. Detailing is a bit of hobby for me but I haven't seen this on any car before.

Nothing you can do about it. It's the dust sitting on the car. However, mine does need waxed.....

Do you use anything on the seals or the windows, like amorall or glass cleaner that could be mixing with the rain to create the problem? Mine is white, and while it doesn't get much detailing, I haven't noticed any streaking (except for the horizontal brush/tree branch streaks).

Thanks, thought about that but no, I haven't used anything yet on the windows except car wash. Very odd, it runs down from the roof racks and even from the antenna. This obviously is not gonna haunt me for all eternity :D but it damn sure is annoying as I like the truck to always look good.

The problem is that you don't have nearly enough dirt on your truck. The dirt keeps you from noticing the darker run-off. :D

FWIW, I have the same issue with mine (it's white too). On mine, it comes off when I apply wax. On a positive note, if your wife finds it annoying enough, maybe she'll suggest that you get another truck for her...one that's darker. Then you can take over the 80 and actually play with it.

If I had that kinda coin, it wouldn't matter if she wanted me to have my own truck.

The problem is you wax your truck...if you did not wax it, rubbed it at times with a pine branch, gentle swirls with a rock, then it'd look fine.. :)

Don't worry, we're all just jealous that you actually have a clean truck, I can not remember the last time mine was clean, or waxed, and it's never been waxed by hand since I've owned it...

Next you'll ask how to get a small stain off the leather...HA, I could play connect-the-dots with all the stains and random spills still visible in my leather. :)

Could be acid rain.? My white rig is almost always clean, nicely waxed etc. dirt and scratches come out of the paint easier if the rig is waxed with a good wax.
Yes I know that I have way to much time on my hands to have a clean rig. It comes from all of the down time in the evenings at my job:], so esentially some might interpet that I get payed to wash my own vehicle..

I have a similair problem - my brown colored truck tends to have this metallic color coming thru after a good bit of rain! :D

Oh crap, not another one.
I'm already in a bad mood and almost pressed the GDB twice today.

You do her laundry by hand also? My wife has a 96 white 4Runner, basically a pig sty. It will get clean when she gets off her bottom (better -B-?) and cleans it.

Women burnt their bras back in the 70's so I don't have to wait on them!

Hey I paid good money for this thing and if it ain't bunny hoppin' off boulders its gonna look mint! :flipoff2:
