Recurving Help request from Jim C

Jim,

I have a desmogged 86 FJ60 needing a carb recurving. Is dizzy recurving necessary or is that unecessary? It's my daily driver and I'd need the components rather quickly. What address do you prefer for receiveing shipments?-Jake

The dissy recurving is not an absolute necessity. Assuming the dissy has a functioning mechanical and vacuum advance systems, there will be too much advance in the midrange, so the base timing will need to be retarded a few degrees from the stock setting. That doesn't help off-idle performance, but the on-highway performance will be fine.

I have used several of Jim's "smog pump eliminator" pulley setups and have never had a problem. Have also had Jim make up a few brackets to use a Toyota mini truck (22R engine) PS pump on a 2F with very satisfactory results. A pat on the back from Shmukster for doing good work! Gary S

Does this bracket for the PS pump replace the original cruiser pump or does it go in a different spot? Also are these pumps less apt to leak than the cruiser one? Thanks

Jake, the typical TLC Perf PS pump install uses a 79-85 22R pump located down low in the 2F air pump location. The PS pump used on 2F is the worst PS pump in the toyota inventory. The pump used on minitruck & diesel cruisers is a more durable, powerful design.

So I just have to get an aftermarket bracket to use that pump? If I'm gonna replace the PS and remove the smog pump it would be smart to kill two birds with one stone. Does anyone have a link or a name brand on the adapter? Thanks again...

Jim sending PayPal now for the Pulley. Just tried to gut my smog pump to use as a pulley til a later date when I could get yours but mine will not turn now. Looks like the interior part has a wobble that doesnt allow it to turn (was catching a bit when everything was pulled apart and spun).
