Went to Desert Toyota today (was on that side of town making a Popeye's Chicken run).

I ordered the outside rubber off the tailgate of an early 4-Runner to try and see if I can make it work on my Pig. The parts girl there was really excited about looking something like that up. She was very helpful and also fairly knowledgeable.

When I pulled into the parking lot in the 40, the sales guys all came over to ogle it. They had me pop the hood and s***. You would think they had never seen a land cruiser. It was funny as hell, and when I mentioned I was working on an FJ55 with little or no rust, they were really in awe. A couple of them didn't know what a Pig was. Kids...

Lol!
We need to pull in as a group next time..

BTW, how is Popeye's? Been wanting to try it, but just too far to drive for a carry-out.

Jack A told me the other day as he was driving his "4 Wheeler magazine cover" restored V8 FJ40 and his dad was following in the non-restored 55 stocker, that more people will slow to stare at the 55!

Kinda like a "what the h*ll is that thing?!"

I won't drive that far for it either, but I was halfway there already. There used to be one at Thornydale & Cortaro, but Wells Fargo bought the property and put up a bank there.

I love Popeye's. The spicy cajun chicken is good, but the red beans and rice are awesome. And occasionally they will have a limited time special of crawdad or other cajun staples.

I've got a pig with my name on it in Elfrida, can't wait to decorate my yard with it (restoration wiil be in the way distant future)...

Let me know if the crawdad special shows up again, I will make the trek!

When I was a kid, we used to always get Lucky Wishbone. That was some good food!

Had a similar reaction with my 84 FJ60. Friend of mine works in the service dept, and we took it in there so I could put it up on the rack and eyeball some stuff. Couple of the old crusty guys came and looked, one of them is in the process of fixing up his, and wondered (jokingly, I hope) about buying parts off of it to fix his.

On another note, anybody seen that little Red cruiser that Desert Nissan has on 22nd between Swan and Craycroft? Its one of the really old pre-40's, I think. Looks to be in immaculate shape, from what I could see whizzing by at 40mph

Saw that at Thoroughbred Nissan today. It's an old Patrol, probably early 60's.

Aw, hell

Dammit. Was hoping it was one of the 25 series or something similar that came over with somebody in the air force. Still a neat little thing, but just not one of ours.

Old Patrols are just as cool as old cruisers and harder to find. Guy here was selling one a while back, his user name escapes me, but his name is Dwayne. Nice guy.

i had a patrol,,, neat rigs. i always get the deer in headlights stare when i drive the 55 around, sometimes when other peeps windows are down i can hear them say things like "whats is that thing?" gas stations are funny, if the confused looks of curiosity arent enough, filling with diesel tops the cake(when i run pump diesel).
i'm one who prefers to fly under the radar, but i like unique rigs, so i just have to deal with the attn.

That rig demands attention, still running the Cheetah paint job?

I've stopped and looked at that Nissan Patrol. It definitely caught my attention.

I think the quickest way to clog one's arteries is Lucky Wishbone....but it is delicious.

yey, I inquired about the "paint job". if you get a chance take a close look at it.

nothing special, according to a service personal, Oscar's son was happy with it as is. cool rig, but to be out in front of a Nissan dealership, I'd expect a lot more. overspray would have been the least of my worries:meh:

Last Saturday loading the 40 on the trailer pre-Payette, Jogging Girl jogs by  and says "Nice Land Cruiser" I almost dropped the ratchet straps. Because she didn't say "Jeep". :D
