Be careful backing up. Hit a low post on edge of parking lot. Pressure on the black bumper pad broke both back up sensors. Ouch.

Yeah, the black plastic is really only a bumper cover, beneath that black plastic is styrofoam, beneath the styrofoam is steel.

So -- Did you have the backup sensors enabled? How did you do that? Backing too fast?

Not so fast

Not going fast. Alarm went off. Traffic sign was close behind so I assumed that was triggering the alarm. Sneaky little bollard was out of sight near ground protecting sign.

I just tapped the bollard. It made a small dent in black plastic just on the edge of the sensor. Not worth bothering with to me. Two days later the left side sensor fell into the bumper.

I asked them to replace the bumper pad and sensor. During the reapir they discovered that the right side sensor housing was cracked by the impact and needed to be replaced.

Two sensors and one bumper cover for a 2 mph back up error.

Keep your FJ out of the supermarket lot. If someone taps your bumper you will be writing big checks.

What bumper?!

What bumper?!

I believe what is installed is called a "sacraficial placeholder". Its in the location where a bumper is supposed to be installed (and there are several on the market now).
