I have a 1969 fj40 with 37 inch bias ply tires that are balanced on beadlock rims and when I'm driving down the road if I hit a bump the front and will start to shake enough to wear it almost jerks the wheel out of my hands and progressively gets worse until I hit the brakes and come to a complete stop sometimes it seems to do it when I hit a bump or a little waver in the road and it doesn't at all speedsI jacked it up and check the front end it all everything seems tight and I'm just at a loss of what it could behas anyone had an experience with this type of problem.

Search is your friend.
Also need more info. Lift? SOA? C&T? P/S?

Spring over, power steering, not sure on the lift height and C and T ? Stretched 6 inches

Was a Cut and Turn done on the axle as part of the SOA?

Knuckles were not cut and pinion has a very slight degree pointed up towards the transmission I purchased it with 39 inch tires on it and it it was doing this when I bought it I brought it to a tire store and they said it was the 39 inch swampers so I put some small Toyota rims on and tires on it and it drove perfectly fine so I bought some 37 a bias ply and had them mounted on the allied beadlock rims had them balanced and went out and drove around at 50 and 60 and the rig was fine or at least seem fine never wobbled on me I went up to Walker Valley hangover run and went wheeling and when I came out of there it started doing the same thing that it was doing with the 39 inch swampers

If your are running a stock 40 housing you will have 0~1 degree caster with the pinion shaft flat to the horizon. If it's pointed up
you are running negative caster. It will wander quite a bit. Loosen your tie rod turn it one full turn, drive down the road and check results.
If it gets worse go back to where you started and try a full turn the other direction and do the same.

Hi all,

Frankenstein, I'd have to say it is all the Walker Valley mud stuck on your tires & wheels! ;)

Seriously, glad you were able to figure out the problem. How about a pic or two of your rig?

Regards,

Alan
