I've been thinking about going to Death Valley for a few days after the holidays this year. I'm really just looking to explore the area and to get away for maybe 3 days. I have no agenda or set plans. Any interest, let me know.

I usually get down to that area between Xmas and new year.

Not sure yet, I might only make it as far as Ridgecrest this year with a day trip to the Panamints.

Planning on camping in DV? It gets F'n cold at night and you can't have a fire so you're in bed for like 14 hours a night!

^ agreed...unless you are with/camped at the Springs when the San Jose group of about 100-150 revelers that carry on every year for their New Year's party down. Plenty of generators, lights, loud music, loud voices and everything thing you need to stay awake

Right, I meant you can't have a fire just anywhere, I was being dramatic.:p

Of course, you can always snag a backcountry cabin with a fireplace!

I know that cabin. Boy o boy, the last time I was there, it was so freak'n windy. I thought the roof was going to rip off. Sleeping in the Cruiser wouldn't have made a difference as that was rocking from the wind too.

Hmm I may be down for a year end Death Valley run.

I might be up for this too...

Staying tuned also.

I'm planning to be in Vegas visiting my Son & family around Christmas/New Years. Last time I was in DV was around March of 1970. Stayed at Stove Pipe Wells Motel then. It must have changed a bit in 45 yrs:rolleyes:, but we sure had a good time. This sounds interesting and a chance to meet some new folks!

I need to do more research on the cabin situation. I don't know how many there are or even where they are located. Does anyone have this information. I'll spend some time today researching.

Tip: Sleep inside your tent inside the cabin(s)...keeps the rodents at bay. Credit for this idea goes to my good friend Ali.

Wow that cabin camping looks epic!

Not sure I'd sleep in those cabins. I've been to a couple of them and the beware of hantavirus signs are all over them.

But that picture made it look darn inviting!!

That one is pretty nice... There is another one a mile or two from there. There are some nice semi-sheltered campsites around there as well.
