having my 55K service done on my 2007, and the dealership says they noted that my truck was not idling as smooth as it should be and recommended throttle body clean out for $109.

I haven't notice any difference in the way it feels. Does anyone have recommendations on whether or not this should be done at this point in the trucks life and is $109 worth it?

I clean mine all the time along with the MAF sensor and air filter.

Tell them to go clean out their own throttle body, its a load of crap. They tell that to everybody that comes in there. $109 is ridiculous, like he said, you can do it yourself.

What they said. The reason you haven't noticed is because it has happened slowly over time. Like Gottagetone, I clean my throttle body and mass air flow meter when I change my air filter.

Alright Gents...thx for all the replies. will do some reading and get it done myself.

buy a can of throttle body cleaner...lift hood...remove engine cover.....disconnect hose from air cleaner to throttle body....remove mass air sensor.......

get toothbrush or some other scrubbing device....spray all inside of throttle body...move to OPEN position and be sure to get back a little and around area when closed as build up there will keep it from opening and closing well...scrub it good...dont scimp on the cleaner...flood it...scrub....clean off dirty stuff with more spray...clean again....do it until smooth and shiny inside all around.

get mass air sensor cleaner and spray your sensor really good being sure not to touch wires or anything...and that it is unplugged and completely removed from vehicle. Set aside to air dry afterwards just spraying...NO SCRUBBING.

Go over to Throttle Body...do it one more pass just for good luck...make sure clean and smooth and no buildup anywhere especiall around where valve stops when closed and the pivots for valve hinge.

Mass Air sensor should be dry now...reinstall...dont plug in yet. Reconnect hose to Throttle body...replace cover...put air cleaner back to gether....then when tight last step is plug wires back into mass air sensor.

start vehicle and let it idle until warm. shut it down then crank again and drive it and should tell idle a bit higher than before...easier starting...etc. I do mine about once every year or two depending on how it is acting....but it does build up some gunk in there.

Good luck... will take you about 30 minutes to do everything...slightly more if first time taking it all down.
